<div class="IPBDescription">about changes to lerk in 1.1?</div> I'll be honest, the only time I find myself going lerk is when that 3rd hive is up, and you get the evil green cloud.
To be perfectly honest, I can't fly straight to save my life.
If there was an ns flying school, I'd be the kid who was always running over the cones.
That coupled with the fact that I prefer a good melee fighter, has shied me away from using the lerk.
So, I'm thrilled at the prospect of changes coming to the lerk that might make him all the more enticing to play, I can only imagine how much more dynamic my game play can become with this versatile beast <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Personally I think they should modify spikes a tad to make them more useful, perhaps in an opposite way to how they changed umbra (and look how much difference that 6/7 -> 5/6 makes).
Oh, and why isn't there a Lerk smilie for the posts? Damn you racist forum admins. ;D
What kind of Marines are you biting? I find it much easier to munch 3 or 4 of 'em as a lerk than I do a skulk. It's a whole helluva lot harder to hit something flying at you in the air than it is something moving at you on the ground. Plus, have you ever seen a thing called Umbra?
Use the Lerk at 2 hives or even 1 hive, you'll seen he rocks. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
I try buzzing over the head of a marine after casting umbrea around him, but I usually just get swatted outta the sky <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
p.s we need a lerk and fade emoticon.
I do admit, the lack of ability before the second hive is kinda offputting for us, but flying i am fine with, i am unstoppable on the wing => Just somehting i am good at
Its obvious that the <b>visible animation</b> dips, but the animation has nothing to do with how the damage is calculated. The Lerk spike attack hits its target instantly as you press the fire button, and goes exactly to the crosshair. It doesn't matter where the spike model goes, the spike model isnt doing the damage.
Spikes are a rapid fire, hitscan weapon with high accuracy.
Its easy to check this on maps with breakable objects or with a friend. Try this: load ns_hera offline and go lerk in the marine spawn. Open the door leading to maintenance and stand slightly down the ramp, so the breakable grate is in view. Aim your spikes at the very bottom of the grate so that when you fire, your shots appear to dip and hit the boxes infront of the grate. The smoke puffs will also be visible on the boxes instead of the grate. Fire a burst or 2 into the grate, then start firing shots 1 at a time. When the final shot is fired, you will see that the grate breaks instantly when you press the fire button, before the spike model even leaves your lerk. And despite the spikes visibly dipping to hit the boxes, you still break the grate which is in your crosshairs.
so great to be compleitly quiet and flying straight toward thier head comping away
a few people swear by it.......... say that its gospel word, i'd love to know the truth, because if your aiming long and high then ur just gonna miss!!
EDIT: lerks spikes are definately NOT hitscan.... there seems to be an arch and seems to be affected by gravity over long distances... ie refinery when ur on the cieling and aiming down.... the spikes seem to go LOWER than the target <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo-->

Flying and biting is always cool <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Theres always room for improvment though.
Lerk > Fade.
2 Hive Lerk > Marine.
For a, what is it, 6 year old engine these models are awesome. The animations would be more complete, but since they dont really effect gameplay, no biggie there. And I am sure by 2.0 they will have those accomplished.
I looked at your name, and I am betting you are one of those guys who have decided that NS should really be AvP with a comm, and gone and replaced every aspect of it with an AvP model. I am also taking a guess, and think that you dont think of an alien as an alien unless it looks like a giger designed bug(they are badass though).
So...I have to disagree with you here bud, and say that the models are very well done. Probally the best some of the best models of the HL engine.
The animations, I can agree with you on, they are neither good or bad. They are simply incomplete.
Of course, I am not much of graphics, I just like solid gameplay. And NS has alot more of that than many other games.
well they also need to work on older computers, not you're "<i>monster</i>" gaming rig <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
We're waiting for some back up to your words man. Show us better animations and models.
Or stop trolling.
Eitherway.
