I didn't see it (partly because I didn't want to, partly becuase I forgot), but I only have one question: were there any more fake boxes?

*edit*after reading the transcipt, I'm just plain ****. This is most obvious middle-of-the-roading I've ever seen a politician do. Basically, his whole speach is this: I will lower taxes, increase spending on programs that help you personally, and I'm gonna go kick Saddam right square in teh balls for no real reason. I am simply appaled.

^^^ Racist comments like that will only earn you a permanent vacation from these boards. I have 0 tolerance for racism of any kind here. You're not showing patriotism through your comments, you're showing ignorance.

Anti American? I'll have you know I'm 21 years old, and I serve in the United States Air Force. Don't lecture me, kid. I don't care how "patriotic" you THINK you are, comments like yours don't help anyone's cause. Do you honestly believe that "All Ragheads should die" is a patriotic approach to take? It's been said before, and some ignorant people still refuse to believe this. This is not a war against the middle-east. We're in a war against terrorism.

thanks for the transcript. Glad I missed it. He has some good speechwriters, though! Glad he's hiring college-educated people. I hope I get hired (generic, not to work for the PotUS) when I get out

I listened to some awesome music, and some scary stuff at an open mic night instead.

My favorite part lately is that he says he wants us to be ready for war, and to be prepared to attack iraq, but not that we are going to. What does that even mean? Everyone and their third cousin know he will attack iraq, even if its unpopular. and why? Because he can, and "That man threatened my father's life"

*sigh*

I'll look into the transcript more before posting again in this thread.

Good writers? Maybe it's just me, but listening (reading) him is like listen to Greedo trying to scratch a Britteny Spears record on a CD player.... hehe
What I really think people go to that in person for is the "weight watches ease into fitness program". They have to clap every 5 lines of text... sooo, thats a total of 510 times. Whether or not you like Bush, you can't escape the fact that Saddam still has alot of chemical and biological toys. If he refuses to disarm, we have to go to war. =/ For a good reason at that.

I can imagine people critisizing Bush for the war, but watch when something bad happens, they'll blame him for not doing anything.

Also, Spyder, how long have you been in the Air Force?

The fact that the republicans stood and clapped regularly (while the democrats clapped when they felt it was appropriate) was amusing to me.

Meanwhile, the guy about 6 rows back on the Dem side reading a newspaper was REALLY amusing to me.

His stance of "we'll go to war with or without the support of the UN" is genuinely frightening, though... the power of being a permanent member of the security council goes to our heads a little much.

EDIT: Racial intolerance is part of what it means to be American? Please go die in a corner somewhere... I don't want you living in my country, and i most certainly don't want you telling people what's "American."

In the deep south, a large portion of America is anti-black, anti-hispanic, and anti-middle-eastern.

Weapons of "big bewmage?" Sorry to burst your bubble, but the USA is a nuclear *superpower.* We aren't looking to build a couple of nukes... we have a *lot* of nukes, and the capability to drop them.

As for chemical weapons... we thrash on Saddam for using them in the 80s... America used them in Vietnam in the '60s (Agent Orange, anybody?)

I can't imagine why anybody would be Anti-American... it couldn't have anything to do with some of us thinking "all ragheads should die," could it?
• SirusSirus Join Date: 2002-11-13 Member: 8466Members, NS1 Playtester, Constellation
Don't say that, I doubt you know the consensus of anti-american middle-easterners. And just because they don't like something doesn't mean they're bad. Now if they strike against US citizens, then we have a problem.

Okay, Shane, saddling Muslims for terrorists is like saddling Germans for Hitler, Christians for the inquisition, and Hindus for the religious strife in India. It's an oversimplification, an erroneous one. Everyone is different, and not everyone who subscribes to a general belief or nation holds the exact same opinions as their neighbors. Islam has its own 'thou shalt not kill' just as much as Judaism and Christianity. The core rules of behavior are the same. The people going out and murdering others are no more faithful of their religion than a serial killer is a good Christian.

What part of "Agent Orange, anyone?" indicated i was talking about napalm?

Agent Orange, as it was used in Vietnam, contained dioxin. This means covalent chlorine. Chlorine gas was used in WWI, as a chemical weapon... when you assaulted an area that had been gassed with it, you mostly found a lot of very sick and dying people, from chlorine-related medical problems. Not a chemical weapon.... *rolls eyes*

sorry for the double post, kinda forgot about the point of the thread

Bush certainly delivered most of the speech well enough... and he really seems like a nice guy, like after the address, he went and shook hands and said hey guys whazzap etc.

However, his speech was a bit melodramatic, and the way most of the assembly gave a standing ovation every little soundbite he said was quite appaling. Unfortunately, i missed the beginning as i was in a class and only caught the part about Iraq and the other foreign nations America was going to save the world from.

Not to be irreverant of The President of the United States of America, or our foreign policy, and if some of the things Mr. W said about Iraq are true, then they're pretty bad... but it seems to be raising the issue of how ethical it is to attack a country that hasn't ever done anything to the United States...

Anybody involved in the human genome project would classify a person of middle-eastern descent as being human. Considering that the Middle East was the center of intellectual understanding in the world from about 300 CE to about 1000 CE, your opinion of them is fairly uneducated.

If this is genuinely an honest question, I truly fear for your upbringing, and hope that the people who raised you are sterilized. They should not be having kids.

As far as the role of Islam in all this, Indonesia is the largest moslem country in the world. Not exactly middle eastern...

I'd point out, just for even-handedness, that Suthern hick = racist is also an overgeneralization. I'm born and raised in Virginia, which, while not 'deep south' by any means is still an ex-Confederate state. My friends and I were all raised with very anti-discrimination values by our parents, and whenever any racist groups pop into town, you can bet that the locals will be out in force to make them feel unwelcome. Racism exists, surely, but it's hardly as prevalent in the area as some people would think. The media, of course, flocks right to each and every "The South will rahs again, suh!" nutjob who pops up on the streets, which doesn't help a thing.

Funny how the media does that. They lovingly relay threats from crazed terrorists. They linger over hate crimes. Anything that can be done to stir up negative emotions, they lunge at the opportunity. Because, of course, scandalized people will keep watching or reading their news.

So please, don't take Shane as an indication that everyone in his area share his views.
