Lerk "hang"

ZiGGYZiGGY Join Date: 2003-01-19 Member: 12479Members
that darn annoying bit where you run out of energy after gliding in and biting off a few marines faces.
You just get propelled upwards with , to me, no way of possibly moving out of it. Help on this would be much obliged.

The simple rule is to not stay in that long. That's about all the advice I can offer <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

You might need to rephrase your request. I'm not exactly sure what you're asking...... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Is this what you mean - having just enough energy to jump/flap once, but not having enough energy to do anything else once you're in the air?

If that's the case, you're pretty much screwed. If you're doing a graceful float in front of the marines simply because you're too tired to do anything else, you <i>deserve</i> to be shot. Aliens shouldn't do 'graceful', and administering death is perfectly within a marine's rights once faced with such a situation.

Seriously though.... if you end up too exhausted to fly out of combat if/when things get too hot, then maybe you should have stayed outside the combat zone and shot spikes while the other aliens did their melee thing. If it's just you versus a group of marines and you insist on biting them to death, then you never even had a chance to begin with (unless you're a <b>really</b> good Lerk).

If you're out of energy and the marine(s) is still alive, you're dead. The golden rule as a lerk is always have enough energy for an escape. If you can't finish the marine in one attack, hit him and then fall back around a corner and polish him off with some spikes.

Or use your bite, and completely ignore spikes for the most part.

It's much more energy : Damage efficient.

yup, i almost always keep 1/3 energy to fly away
  • TheHornetTheHornet Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1776Members, Constellation
flying without energy is a deathtrap... Lerking without adrenline can be done, but your attacks are severly limited.

Yeah, well too bad "You just get propelled upwards with , to me, no way of possibly moving out of it." makes no sense whatsoever. Even when asked for clarification all you can do is spew back invective.

Well ziggy, the <i>first response</i> in the thread stated that your question was difficult to understand.

If english is your second language, I'm sorry, but we have no idea what you're asking.

If english is your first language, you need a little bit of remedial grammar edumacayshun.

No need to be a **** about it. You should know in all your wisdom that no forums are like games forums when it comes to derailing threads. Oh baby, oh baby.

I answered the question based on what I believed the question to be. To reiterate:

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->that darn annoying bit where you run out of energy after gliding in and biting off a few marines faces.
You just get propelled upwards with , to me, no way of possibly moving out of it. Help on this would be much obliged.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

My understanding of the above problem was that you'd fly into a group of marines, do some fancy lerk mojo, then only have enough energy left to jump/flap once while trying to make a smoov getaway. While lacking energy, all you'd do is gracfully float back down and get killed.

    to quote myself........
    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->You might need to rephrase your request. I'm not exactly sure what you're asking...... <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

That was posted a mere 30 minutes after you asked the original question. If my original assumption of the question was incorrect, you should correct it rather than going for the jugular of me and everyone else who may have misinterpreted you.

I'll even simplify mine and most other people's responses:

If you run out of energy while trying to fly away, you're screwed. Change your strategy next time.

Seems like most people's requests for advice just turn into holier-than-thou threads.
  • OWAOWA Join Date: 2002-12-22 Member: 11322Members
The reasonable answer is that there IS no solution to what you have discribed. The only way to avoid becoming suspended in the air with no energy is to not get into that situation in the first place. If you dont' save yourself enough energy to get out a fight you dont' have any real options if you can't finish the marines: you move appaulingly slow in the ground and you're going to need enough energy for 3 flaps min to propel yourself to safety.

Explain yourself boy, your failure to properly word a post is not the fault of the people reading the thread.

But if i was to hazard a guess what you are referring to, it sounds like you are running out of energy in the middle of an upwards flap/glide and somehow managing to get stuck in an upwards glide headed for the cieling? Sounds like a bug to me.

If you're simply hanging in the air after an upwards flap because you had no energy left to control yourself in the air, and consequently float straight down into marine fire then the other posters are correct - its your fault for not watching your energy level.

My advice, is to go Skulk instead, if you're no good with Lerk then don't bother.

haha, and about that, if you died from falling you must have been up pretty high so you could just hold down your flap key and you will glide to the ground unharmed, unless it was a short fall and you were badly hurt.
  • kavasakavasa Join Date: 2003-01-05 Member: 11889Members, Constellation
I was in a game last night where a guy was flying down a long hallway and had adrenaline and just kept flapping. He slapped into the wall at the other end for 30 damage.
