questions for alien players...
Hello I’m kind of new to natural selection. I have played enough games to know the mechanics and how to build what and what structures do what. But where I am still lacking is overall strategy. First off I almost exclusively play gorges . So my questions need to be answered by those who know how to play this type of creature.
So for your veteran gorges how do you play? What buildings do you set down first? Or in other words how should I start out playing an ns game to make my team have the largest advantage? What tricks of the trade do I need to know to get around the best marine tricks? What building placing tricks work the best for you guys?
And for the other alien players who are not gorges my question to you is.: What do you need me to do to make you the most effective and deadly alien that you can be?
Well thank you for your time.

At start of game build One defense chamber
then put down three RTs (with one existing, means we have four)
then go for second hive right away.
When second hive is being born plant defenses (OC and DC)
then go to first hive and establish defenses same as above.
Then work on upgrades.

Often times I find a couple fades tellin the gorge to build OC and DC outside of a base before the hives have been adequitly defended. Dont fall for that; the least you can do is guard each enterance to the hive with a formation like this:
O=OC D=DC
O
D
O
That way if a marine runs around it he will still be in trouble. (I generaly do not build more simply because while 3 OC and 3DC can be painful, if your being sieged it doesnt matter, and if they are rushing with people then you should be able to fend them off with my set up. Unless they have HA/Jetpacks, in which case your towers are dead anyway.)
PS: Always tell your team you are going gorge!
Don't, I repeat dont build dc at the very start. The reason is it will take you so long to get up enough resources for a rt after dropping a dc. It is also becoming very common(especially on maps where the start rt is outside the hive) for the marines to kill(or attempt to) the starting rt. That makes it so much more important to grab 1-2 rt's before dropping that dc for the skulks.
You may be tempted to go run and save for a hive after only 1-2 rt's, instead grab at least 3-4 rt's. Then once all those are done your team will have full rts and all 4-5 rts(including starting rt) will be pumped to you. You can then drop a hive and have plenty of resources to play with(provided no one has gone lerk).
At any given time during the game you will have three people requesting different things....YOU need to measure which is the most important and which is more possible to do at the given time. Now im not saying completely blow off requests but do let them know that your in the middle of something important and will jump right on that when possible.
And the final tip....Generally its a really really bad idea to ask someone to go gorge, grab a node, and then go back to skulk. Let me explain...while it may seem he is saving you the trouble of walking those couple of feet....he is also spending 17 extra resources to place 1 rt....not only that but now he must completely fill back up in rts before the overflow comes to you again.
Oh and redem is a wonderful thing as a gorge....especially after you have 3 dc's down.
Im going to try to combine techniques and see what works with different cercumstances. But by all means keep the advice flowing!

Have fun with your building and teammates. Often, I'll gorge and ask if they want something besides Defensive first. I've done movement and sensory before with results usually based on player skill.
Ultimately, if you gorge from the start, getting resource nodes right away is mandatory. Spending money of OCs will get you ridiculed. I once had a gorge "defend" the hive by spamming them. In the same time, the marines were persistant and downed our only res node. 5 minutes later and about 5 OCs later, he exclaimed how slow resources were coming in. He was seriously failing to get anything done.
In the long run, you'll be best to keep open communication with your teammates and ask what they want. Usually the experienced will ask for D chambers 1st and often newbies will want sensory for cloaking, but it's not always the case Communication wins the games and just do whats right by your team and by yourself. You'll do best that way.
How good are your teammates?
If they are good skulks and the marines are noobs, you could go all out RCs and Hives, but if theyre not as good, getting a few DCs up for carpace and defending your RCs with an OC or similar might be better
How well did the skulkrush go?
If the marines are almost killed during the initial phase of the game, you have more time to cap nodes. If they just shot your Teammates, try to get res from the other side of the map
What hive are you in?
If youre in a hive close to the marinebase, you would need to cap a node between the two and fortify it so that you know if the marines are coming for it, when you do, your TMs will be able to defend the hive
What hive are you aiming for?
The best way is usually to go for the hive no marines go for first, get res on the way and when you get there, load a hive and start defending BOTH hives. I always send marines to the first hive if the aliens have two since they never fortify it as much.
Risk and reward
You could do a mad resource rush and try to get like 4-5 nodes early on then just pump defence everywhere and seal the map of. A much safer way is to get a few, fortify early on and hold until you get fades to clean out the third hive, usually fairs well, but get s boring
Fightergorge?
You can fight fairly well as a gorge, after you get some res and web ability. Just put up an OC and web the enemy while working on it, then either heal it with spray or attack the enemy. Adrenaline is important
My cents...
First thing you should do is determine what kind of Gorge you want to be. Here's a quick description of each:
o builder - goes all over the map and builds hives, resource towers, and defenses, and avoids combat whenever possible.
o defensive - mainly builds OC/DC fields and spins a few webs, but rarely strays far from a hive, and will usually use movement chambers to move around if available.
o offensive - is out on the front lines of battle, spamming healspray on fades and lerks, building OC/DC fields to attack marine outposts, spins webs on the HA/HMG's and jetpackers, and so on.
The type of Gorge you are will usually dictate the upgrades you choose. Once you're comfortable with your choice, make use of it.
If you're playing an offensive Gorge, let your team know that you want to come along on the next attack on a marine base - most Fades and Lerks will be happy to have you along. Webs will disable the expensive HA/HMG's, healspray will keep the aliens alive, and a movement chamber nearby will let them escape to a hive if the marines put up a strong defensive.
If you're playing defensive, learn the best ways to drop OC/DC chambers. It's hard to describe in a text message, but try and set them far enough into a chokepoint so the marines have to come into the open to fire, but not far enough away so the chambers can't properly track a target. Remember that OC's fire slowly and not very accurately. Webbing along the floors will help the OC's in tracking, but it'll usually only work once and then they'll most likely siege the chokepoint.
If you're playing builder, make sure you've got 3 of every available chamber up as soon as they're available. Once your second and third hive goes up, you should know what the team wants next by asking while the hive is going up. Drop 3 right away, and usebuild them. Your comrades will appreciate the level 3 upgrades. I would also suggest having 3 of each chamber in each hive. That way, if you lose a hive, you've still got your level 3 upgrades.
You can mix-and-match the three 'personalities' however you want (or even be all three at once), but I find that one of them are how most Gorges will play.
Secondly, know how the Kharaa resource system works!! I've seen far too many Gorges on a team simply because many players don't know the resource system. One gorge on a team at first is all you need.
Also, once the resources are about to be capped at 33 on the Skulks, strongly advise that they not evolve into Lerk. If the Skulks aren't taking in any more resources, that means that the Gorges are getting the full income every tick. This is very important.
Third point is to know the maps. If you're the only Gorge and someone requests "DC field in Triad", for example, you'd better know how to get there quickly from any hive location. People are depending on you to get those DC's up, so you should have at least one up before they feel the need to ask "Hey Gorge, where are those DC's I asked for?".
I won't suggest a build order, because it varies from player to player, but the idea is to get that second hive up as soon as possible. If the skulks can keep the marines busy for a few minutes, then all you'll need to do is drop resource towers for now. Once the second hive is going up, then start making the chambers.
Anyways, I hope this helps.
Once the hiveis completed.. but 2 movement chambers at each hive. Once you team starts evolving to fades... go with them to marine base... and put defence chambers outside of there base, to give fades quick and easy access to healing.
