What Does Flayra Get Out Of Ns?

Other then personal satisfaction...
I was wondering not so long ago... what does Flayra get out of NS?

Is this project a way for him to expand his professional resume? Is he hoping a company will give him an offer to buy NS and go retail with it? Is this a launching point for him to start his own company?

So what are your motivations Flayra? Why NS?

He's a psychic vampire who gains his power from whiny forum posts. It's the only logical possibility.

... in other word, hopefully he gets a stonking job. My preference would be EA and we could see NS 2003, NS 2004, NS 2005 (with motion captured Fades / full team management / seasonal leagues) ...

he's already WORKED as a professional, so it's not that. I think it's his love to make games, to make something new that hasn't been done before.

I'd love to get into games design myself, worked in related fields too long, but no actual experience, but I've never known how to get into it, without spending my next 5 years in Uni (which I can't afford to do, as eating food I've always enjoyed)

So, come on Flayra, how do I get into this job too?

(Oh, and my vote for motivation would be - Because what job would you want more? Weapons tester?)

No seriously: for respect, love for gaming and it looks great on Resume. I somehow got the idea that this is Flayra's dream game (every game developer has one ) and with the state the game industry is in it's hard to make a commercial game of it... I've read his text on mods vs. commercial games and he explains that it's easier for mods te be the way they were intended to be, as there is less pressure to get it released before it's deadline. It's also a way to experiment with how games can be etc.

Yep, that's right Orc. I just love to make games and try new game experiences. I imagine most people that like NS know what I'm talking about...we all just love playing the part of a marine or alien, and NS lets us live out our wildest fantasies. For a few moments, you can act like a squad and work as a team. You can pretend you're a (misunderstood?) creature who's fighting for survival...and leap at your enemies and tear them to shreds. You can have the experience where sarge loses it and gets shell-shocked, as his men scream into their voice comm for help then drop like flies.

These are the reasons I love sci-fi, teamplay and action/strategy, and making a mod was the only way I was going to realize these experiences. If someone wants to give me funding to be able to use some new technology and to tackle something a bit more ambitious, I'm all ears. :)

You've been programmer on, uh, was it Empire Earth? Don't you know some industry lads who could help with that? Of coruse, every little game house out there has a staff full of budding game designers. And ideas are turned down on simple things" Sorry, great concept, but "not our idea", ie. they got loads of hobby projects in the drawers that are going first priority if anything.

If you get MS funding and it turns into xbox exclusive, well I guess I'd have to go buy me an xbox

    Example play session

The following is a visualization of a game of Aliens vs. Humans. It intends to describe the game's social aspects, it's pace and design philosophies. It is a freeform way to explore ideas without having to implement them or completely think them through. Prototyping through story is a powerful way to capture a feel, especially if it hasn't been seen in a previous game or work.

I think it would be HILARIOUS if we all chipped in and got Flay a "Flayra" liscence plate! Hmm. wonder if they're as cheap as NE's out in MA... My LVL DSNR plates were only about $30 extra, but I hear other states are considerably more. Anyway, with a few donations, I'm sure he could afford a set of Flayra plates. Or perhaps Flay or Flyra if the first choice is taken.

Yes his sidekick can be George, the lovable gorge that provides the comic relief factor in the show. We can get Don Knox to do his voice.
