<div class="IPBDescription">why Ns is balanced, demo included</div> <a href='http://www.lvcm.com/sobe/comm.zip' target='_blank'>http://www.lvcm.com/sobe/comm.zip</a>
5 meg download, 25 meg demo. Its about 25-30 minutes long or so. If you watch the whole thing, more power to you. You will learn a lot about commanding and how to play NS in general. If you just watch up to how we cap 2 hives, thats cool. You wont learn quite as much about turret placement and communication, but you'll understand why fades are balanced and all of the other claims about "balance issues" on this forum are null and void.
Some notes...i posted about this a while ago. I explained how my strategy worked and what I would do if the situation wasnt perfect. As you watch, you'll notice that it was kinda difficult for us to cap Computer Core. And the one thing that really tilted the game in our favor was the backup TF in computer core. Thats actually my new thing. I can build another one for 25 resources, or 2 more towers for 38....you see my point. During the game, they actually take out my primary TF (which stopped the siege from working for a minute). If I didnt build that backup, then they proably would have taken over CC, and the game would have been a much different story.
I hope everyone can learn something from this demo. Today I am gonna make a game of myself playing as gorge, and demonstrate how to win on the alien side, and couter that strategy...

Put the .dem file in your NS folder
Get to the NS console anyway you can
type playdemo comm <enter>
you dont need to type the file extension

And why is Flayra going to geekboys.org? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
But anyways, I have not watched it yet, but I hope to learn how to comm the correct way. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
its my way........a way that works well. And a way that shows how easy it can be to win as marines if everyone works together. Teamwork, not patches!
I'ld be very interested to see more demos of this type on other maps.
I'ld also like to know how long Flayra spent coding the waypoint system, only to have the whole thing made redundant by voice-com. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Yeah, waypoints aren't used too often unfortunately, I'll be revisiting them to make them easier to use and more useful.
You use the skulks that you have to keep the marines contained in their base, just mess around with them
One player goes gorge
The gorge goes to the best logical hive (i.e Vents, cargo bay, etc.)
The gorge builds 1-2 O chambers in places where the marines might build a PG or be walking
If all goes well...
The gorge nabs 2 towers, and builds defense at hive, THEN drops the hive
*This was one of my strats in Starcraft/warcraft. I would build defense at my expansion, THEN i would drop the town hall.
If things arent going smoothly, than the gorge can and should, call for backup. His fellow skulks should know the quickest way to where he is and help him secure that second hive.
I had a game last night where my friend SoBe.Lemonde was comm, and I was gorge. He did that strat I showed, and I did the gorge strat that I am telling you now. He actually got his men into one of the hives and build a PG and turrets, and siege there. I was amazed, because the marines didnt come straight in, they came through a vent (vent 3-c), and built behind my back. I told the team to get there and help and it took about 5-10 minutes to clear him out. I built an O chamber on the phase gate and that helped us alot. It was such a close call, but in the end we wound up getting fades and winning...By no means, an easy win
We get our fair share of "new players" but the general skill level is considerable, we play on aussie servers and get called cheaters.
We tend to "toy" with aliens as marines, we have various tactics and get bored of the phase rush, some of the more fun ones are res whoring and tech up then "let" the aliens have a hive so we can have hmg vs fade <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I think the key is res, simply cap alll the res on the other side of the map to the aliens hive.
My experience in 1.04h is that the resources are a bit more important than before. If the aliens manage to grab two hives but can't get alot of resource nozzles, they can't really afford fades. If the marines manage to grab three nozzles they can usually just tech up and wipe out the aliens, provided the marines are talented enough to use their weapons to maximum effect.
Commed once or twice in 1.04h. I remember once I did fairly good on ns_nancy (I think?) by capping the two resource nozzles in the reactor room and letting the marines rambo in organized groups with well upgraded equipment. The marines were skilled enough that they could handle the less organized pace of it.
Hmm, should find out how to record some demos of own.
in console:
record blah
to finsih simply type stop
I am gonna give 1.04 a shot, but I dont like some of the changes that are being implemented. As you can see, with a good team, the marines can when with little effort. Just as a note...there were only 2 people that i actually <i>knew</i> on that team...zeplin and match head. In that game my clan mates werent there, and my other friends from LGSO werent there. So it was a little bit harder than usual, kekek.
I'll post some more demos later on when i play tonight. My goal by posting these demos is to demonstrate to people here on the forums, that the game is balanced and any game can be won as long as the team works together. The patches should fix certain exploits (like one i just found about 5 seconds ago). Flayra, you might know about it, but I wont post it publically...its pretty bad
Think you could make it so Marines could also cancel waypoints, they sorta get in my way when im playing. And once the Comm tells me where to go, with voice or WPs, i don't need it on my screen the whole time.
quotes:
comm says "go to cc" the 10th time... Marine (cool) "mkay, ill go to CC" comm (ironic) "thaaank you"
Marine (near suth loop) "commaner, please, were am I?"
Comm "did I build on you" marine"NO" comm "phew"
Comm "c´mon find me A nipple, I want res"
Marine"It looks like hackerstrike for me" Other Marine"Im not fammiliar with hacker strike"
Comm leaves seat. other marine takes place.
Ejected Comm "hey my seat"
*he drops 2 jetpacks near ejected comm*
Ejected Comm "Oh jeah jetpacks fine, thabks. Can I please have my chair back?"
*he drops a Nade launcher on ejected comm*
Ejected Comm "no, I dont want a nade launcher" - "Can I command again please?"
Hell funny.

No offense or anything... but you said the same thing 2 times <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
"and it'll launch HL and it will launch HL for you:"
<!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
Good demo BTW.
Good strategy but where aliens are?<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
I feel that they were not here?! except when the attack computer core, the skulk do anything or not too much...
So, i think you've got a good team of marines (they did what you want they do) lucky guy, when i comm, half of my marines don't want to go to waypoints or defend points i want they defend <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Nice job <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
But you can hardly claim based on this that the game is balanced, and your somewhat overbearing claim that '"balance issues" on this forum are null and void.' does not hold much water.
Heck why is 104 even being bothered with?
I agree eclipse is one of the better maps balancewise, but even here we see the utter futility of aliens attempting to retake 2 hives from a competant comm without relying on serious mistake.
But some maps are simply broken.
The game is NOT balanced yet - thought admittedly the common causes people select for the roots of the problems are often incorrect - "fades are unkillable with teh lmg".
anyone who met me on the homeLAN aff. KIR server (before I got banned for no good reason) would know....
I am a damn good gorge....
I am tempted to make a movie, but alas, I am too lazy ^_^;
nice movie btw, but 1.04 totally kicks the living crap outta 1.03 (except F or whatever it was that had the hive bug) ^_^
Right at the begining he klicked around at hives listening to aliens running there....
I dont know if my FTP will let me upload anything over 10 megs, but i'm gonna try.
Marines moved in, stole Eclipse and Comp Core. The rest of the game was just a big long fight for the marines to get around to finishing off Maint. Terrible game if I was an alien player, since we would have had to suffer through the whole thing with one hive. If anything, this proves some serious 1 hive imbalances. The marine team was good from the start, but with the exception of one or two of them, downright incompetant when it came to overcoming alien defences.
Although, I admit the aliens did make a few dumb mistakes. They didn't bother to guard any hives. The marines were too good at gunning down the skulks for there to be any skulk overcoming of the marines. They could never take back any hives. While the aliens made a rush or two with a gorge and offencive chambers, they didn't really back up the gorge sufficiently to prevent the marines from rushing it before the hive was taken back. Didn't see any Lerk sniping to remove turrets. Just a bunch of skulk kamakaze turret munching, not very effectively.
Heh, LGSO killing fields is a nice server. I voluntarily stopped playing on it though cuz I got in an argument with one of the LGSO guys who got ticked when our alien team F4'ed out when they had secured processing in hera and I decided to beat him to the ban since I cussed back at him, heh.
Thats what the marines are supposed to do. And anygame is terrible when your running around as the lowest class, but they did try to build in on CC once. Granted this demo was not a good example, i'll have a better one up by tomorrow =)
If ya really want, i can put it back up...
Completely separate question: Do you know how to bind dropping a medpaack or dropping an ammo pack to a key? I want to be able to spam it when I need to. And also how to bind asking for health and asking for ammo from popup menu to a key. thanks. (I dunno which impulses)
Demo looked nice, but I must say I didn't see the aliens work together until it was too late. Your team really had an easy time against them.
