No you are not correct.

T1 = 1.5Mbit
T3 = 45Mbit

Aye, don't let the befuddled dorm-boys confuse you. You don't buy "10 meg" or "100 meg" connections to the internet. You can get a fractional DS3 capped at 10 Mbps, and I suppose one could arrange for an OC3 capped at 100 Mbps, but generally when people say 10 Mbps or 100Mbps, they're talking ethernet.

yeah i did some research - and i'm gonna get a 1Mbit line for home - put it on a lan host a server on it and tap inot the server via the lan.

I think i can manage that?

sure, if you sell an organ every week you might be able to afford that phat pipe

i can afford it, the only problem is they only do 1024 dl and 256 UL, if you work it out - you need 20 ppl getting around 5kb each of download fro sever that'll be 20*5=100kbs

That's what you think, hehehe. You will not be able to run 20 people (from your other post) with only 256kbit upload especially on a dsl line. Each person pulls a few kiloBYTES, your upload is 256 kiloBITS. Divide 256 by 8 to see what your MAXIMUM possible upload in kilobytes is (about 30KB/s)

appartently the website lies, and it's actually a 1024 upload and 512 dl

should work fine

That makes no sense whatsoever, I've never heard of a company that offers higher upload on dsl than download, and I work on computer networks. But you can give it a try, don't complain when it doesnt work like you think it will

Even if your getting a 1mbs connection (cable,dsl,t1) that doesnt mean that you will be getting 1mbs. The ISP's enjoy making money and saying that you'll get x bandwidth when you could be but they have a limiting factor like a modem they supply or something. I have a 1.3 mbs cable connection but have never seen it go over 800kbs.

You are correct about cable and dsl, but T1's have a CIR or committed information rate. They will provide the full throughput. A t1 is an entirely different kind of connection than cable or dsl. You will not be able to run that many players on 512kbit dsl upload, I'd say anywhere from 10 to possibly 16 depending on what speeds you actually get, which you won't know until after it's installed, since they depend on the provider, distance from the CO, network traffic, etc, etc

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

It T1 was 10 MBit, I'd buy one, if T3 was 100, hahhahaha, I'd buy as many as I could sell everything I own for dude....geez, an OC3 is only 155 MBit, so I wouldn't imagine a T3 being close to the same speed.

Why were you asking for connection speeds anyway? Unless you have lots of cash, I'd just colocate.

Any no...my post doesn't really have a point, I'm just bored and negelcted to read the rest of the posts

it's ok, my 1 mbps line rarely goes about half that speed.

These companies just love cheesing us, don't they? And then when I go past the bandwidth cap of 5 gig/month they drop my speeds below dialup speeds...****!

If you can afford it (and its available to you), I would suggest a 1.1mb SDSL line. I run 2, 18 person servers on a single line and things are fine.
