NS Crashes when try to connect or create
NS Crashes back to the desktop when I attempt to create a game server, or join an exsisting server.
It will just go back to the desktop like it was never opened. Its like I typed exit in the console.

PLEASE HELP would like to play the game.

And someone else with the same exact computer installed it and it worked Great for Him so I dont think its a hardware issue. just a software.

I think that if you would use The All Seeing Eye, then you could play that game. I personally hate that Half-Life own browser.

You can download ASE here:
http://www.udpsoft.com/eye/

Use that it works...

Nope still dumps on the loading of a game weather I create one or join one from the list of servers that ASE gives.

Anymore Ideas

All I get is the Won Auth ok then Console Dump C:\Sierra\Half-Life\ns\some.txt file
can remember the file name.

Well Obviously this mod is a piece of ****... Keep working on it and let me know when you coded it correctly.
I have been waiting for a few days searching the forums and waiting for someone to reply and NOTHING helpful.

It could be many reasons why the game crashes. As you said it could be software problems. It might not.

Post your comps specs, as suggested in the sticky topic, then we might assume some things, next that the game just 'crashes'.

1. Have you gotten the newest drivers for your video card?
2. Not accidently selected the A3D option in the audio section?
3. Not running any RAM slurping programs running in the background?
4. Not accidently selected the 3dfx driver for OpenGL.

Give us more dirt to find your problem.

Obviously a problem with your system/software, not the game itself, flaming isn't going to get you much help, how about a list of hardware/service packs etc you have installed to help narrow down the problem please.

Like I said in my first post... It is working on a system identical to this...
But if you want to know anyway

PIII800mhz
256MB Ram
30GB HD
ATI Mobility 128 Video
Windows 2000

Have tried running in 640 and 800 res with and without OpenGL

I am currently able to play DayOfDefeat with no problem.

1. Obviously the mod is not a piece of **** as it has jumped to number 3 in the mod popularity listings after only a few months and many thousands of people play it on a regular basis.

2. We continue to work on it and eliminate problems as for all software. Quality is very high on our agenda and we strive to make NS the best experience we can.

3. You waited for a total of 26 1/2 hours, not a couple of days and people responded to you in that time even though you provided little or no information apart from "it crashed".

You saw this as a reason to spit vitriol at the people who work hard on this mod day in, day out? I think a little attitude re-adjustment on your part would not go astray.

If you want to play the game, then you have to provide details on your system specification (which you've done), verify to us what other software (e.g. are you using Half-life or a retail version of counter-strike to launch NS?) and drivers you're using and how you've installed NS.

We're not mind readers, and as yours is a minority case, it should be patently obvious that we haven't seen this problem before. If we had, you would have a quick answer. As it is, we need you to help us to help you.

joev.

Have you tried running in D3D? Heck even software is worth a try.

Can you try that?

Also try to find that file NS gives.

possibly a problem with your gfx card drivers, have you installed any other software/service packs, what version of directx are you using, is your system up to date, motherboard model number? Bios settings?

more info required please!

PIII800mhz
256MB Ram
30GB HD
ATI Mobility 128 Video
Windows 2000
surely you can provide us with a bit more information, I mean do you have a sound card or any other devices? Nic? modem? etc etc pls

This is a School laptop for starters.

Sorry I forgot to mention the sound card

ESS Maestro2E

Yes I have tried different video modes.
The Game starts to load.. in console it Does a WON Auth.... OK
then says Console Dump C:\sierra\Half-Life\ns\somefilename.txt

Then I can see the program back out of the GUI automaticall and bam I am back to my desktop.

I am running the newest Directx 9.1 or something like that.
Windows NT 2000 service pack 2

What is D3D and I thought I saw somewhere else that it says not to run it that way or maybe it was some other setting. or maybe that was A3D..

And I have seen this problem reported in another post but noone responded to it either...

And yes I have also heard that this was a good mod thats why I want to try it out so bad.. so I am kinda itching to play.

I am running a retail half-life and is updated to the newest version.

As to "joev" I meant I had been searching the forums seen the problem posted with no answer to it for Days.
So dont waste your time bantering at me because I dont really care what you think of me.

If you need anything else let me know.

try sp3 for a start, sounds like a driver issue with the gfx card, how about digging up that text file from your hl folder and posting up the info please. latest official version of directx is 9.0 from ms. can you run all your dxdiag tests without any hiccups, do all other opengl games work fine? ok dod works fine for you, anything else you can test pls? cs/tfc anything, what other games work ok, does d3d work ok? I'm not sure you should have dx9.0 installed with that card either tbh!
• nobleclemnobleclem Join Date: 2003-01-19 Member: 12482Members
OK I check to see if direct x 9.0 installed right and it was.. all tests are OK and I have tried all video modes (openGL, D3D, Software)

I attached the one of the several dump files. It creates a new one everytime the program crashes and it seems to be a NS generated log since that is the folder that it is put into.. but I could be wrong since I dont know how HL works.

I will try to see if I can find a newer driver... dunno its a Notebook that is not any name brand... I beleive is one of these third party selling notebooks.

Is it possible it just could be half-life... I never reinstalled in since my notebook was reformatted.. I just copied the folder to another location and then copied it back...? Just a thought... I can get a Cd and reinstall it and reupdate it if you peeps thinks that maybe the prob....
