How to get them hard to reach skulks
this may get put down quite fast, but it's a tactic that's worked for me number of times and saved my skin.
there's the situation:
you're on your own, you KNOW there's a skulk a little way ahead 'cos you either spotted/heard him or have MO tracking, and you think he's just sitting up there, *haw haw haw*, waiting for you to run up after him where he can jump you from the dark and chew on your face in the crawl space/tight corridor whatever.
what you do is hang back with a nice view of where you "think" he is, use the menu to either call the comm for Med pack or ammo, then select your knife and slash it about a bit, while still calling for ammo. The skulk player will here the slashing and calls for ammo and think you're just down to the blade. 9 out of 10 times the skulk will get greedy & think " nice easy marine kill here" and come out of the dark to get you...grab your machine gun fast and ... one dead skulk!

I've tested this..this does indeed work
Eater.
I normally taunt them and they come soon enough. But calling for ammo well thought up. hehe im going to try that later thanx. i know when im skulk and i hear them calling 4 ammo or a knife swinging i normally storm in.

Personally if I'm playing a skulk, and I hear a player slashing a knife, it seems a little odd [ unless they're a player I know who likes to screw around ], if it was in a clan match for example though, I KNOW no one would run around slashing their knife even if they WERE out of ammo , its just stupid. I hear someone slashing a knife, I stay hidden, then wait for them to run past me...I wont go running to them
however, if I hear a marine ask for ammo and then just sit there, I may go for him, depending on distance, and what upgrades I have ... if I have silence, then yes - I'm there. [ might find a back way to him though ]
Its all relative depending on situation
The idea is that you can have a larger distance than usual Eater1.
You say need ammo fire with pistol then when skulk gets close switch to lmg and down it goes

Here is another thing:
If your pistol has runned out ammo and you know that there are skulk up there, switch to pistol and fire it so there comes that *click, click* sound and ask for ammo same time. When skulk comes out take lmg and then

Hehe, thats an old CS trick, used to use that all the time, but have to take into account that the weapon switch is slower, so takes some timing.
The problem with that one, is that anyone who's played CS, will know it and probably be thinking, 'Hmm, methinks something is up, best be cautious..'
Good strat anyway.

yup, I've been caught with this. I felt so stupid. I ran in a straight line at him and that was that. Never again.
I usually play Kharaa, and there's no sound which grabs my attention faster than a marine knifing a structure. If you want to draw skulks to you like iron filings to a magnet, grab yourself an RT and start slashing. It screams out "easy meat" to every skulk in earshot, and I have to say I get a little careless when I'm attacking a marine in this situation . It might be worth leaving a DC (or something equally harmless) alive just to draw out skulks with.
