Inability To Mute Players Renders Ns Unplayable

<div class="IPBDescription">Well, for me anyway</div> When I try to play NS, everything works fine, except for two things.

The worst of the two is that when players voice chat, all I hear is quarter-second bursts of voice every half a second. It is supremely irritating and I cannot play NS without turning off the sound, which destroys all ambiance / immersion and takes away a lot of NS's entertainment value. Naturally I would mute these players, but this is apparently impossible; the only time that I can bring up a cursor whilst holding tab is during spectator mode. Normally you hold tab and right click and then click the names of the people you wanna mute; well it doesn't work for me. This is the biggest reason that I don't play NS. This bothered me when the game came out, and I gave up on it; now I'm looking for a solution because the game is so damn cool.

Also, when I disconnect from a game and go back to the main menu, NS bluescreens and my computer instantly restarts. I'm running XP Pro on a more than qualified machine.

I would greatly appreciate assistance.

    add voice_enable 0 in to your config.cfg.

This will turn the whole voice system off no need to worry about spamming anymore. This option is in Customize -menu but it dont seem to work, so add it yourself. Sometime ago i tried the 'toggleeditips' tip, but HL says 'unknown command' ..

I can understand how you could have sort of misinterpreted my post if you skipped the first sentence, but take my advice: before you post something rude and/or insulting in response to someone else's post, make sure you have read their post thouroughly and fully understand what it is trying to say. I've had a couple of very embarassing incidents where I read the original poster's message too quickly and incited some rather large and unnecessarily venemous arguments.

Just to recap for ya, I have an issue where voice messages are horribly mangled and scratchy, and come through my speakers in bursts of sound. It is incredibly annoying. I am not saying "I don't want to listen to my teammates!" With this problem, I can't even begin to understand what people are trying to say, and I really can't play with such an irritating noise bursting out of my speakers two or three times a second.

To Nupi and Firestorm (edit: and Fam <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->), thanks a lot for your help!

You can still have good teamplay without voice communication. Its not very neat if your playing on your favourite server and someone starts talking language you dont understand. There are very few people who have good voice com rig, so their sound quality is horrible.. Out of 10 to 9 , it will be only abused by someone who thinks he is the new Elvis Presley.

If you wish to mute players as you can in other half-life mods, it doesn't let you, due to a bug which is on the squashing list. Here's a workaround:

Bind a key to toggleeditps in the console. For instance, I use the Delete key, so I would type:

    bind del toggleeditps

Then, exit the console. Hold down the Tab key to bring up the player list. Tap del. Click to mute/unmute. Then let go of Tab. If it fails the first time (probable) try one or two more times and it should start working.
