I once tried this in creative mode once. What you do is use the propulsion cannon arm on the exosuit and load the rear storage container with flares that are already lit. By pressing the F key loading the flare in the propulsion cannon arm and firing it can shoot a flare a longer distance than by hand, and his also useful for distracting bonesharks too.
