Wow, more and more impressive. Can't wait to play as one of those. Imagine a number of them swarming you like bats. I wonder what the flight controls will be like. Damn this game captures my interest the more I see of it.
As for the aliens not looking scary enough, I agree they aren't the most frightening of alien designs (can't get anymore frightening then Aliens aliens anyway), but NS isn't so much about frightening people as combat and gameplay. And if you ask me the aliens in NS look very original in art and design, and very very very mean. I might not get spooked at the prospect of a bob lurking in the dark, but when it starts biting me (or whatever it'll do to me) I'm sure I'll crap my pants.
As for more information, the waiting is killing me, but anticipation is part of the fun.
The aliens are the way they are for a few reasons. First off, the mod is already being compared to Starcraft, AvP, the Quake 2 mod Gloom, etc, enough as it is. I'm glad they've put so much originality into their alien concepts and avoided the insectoid stereotype. Also, the aliens aren't so much horrible, twisted beasts engineered to be an utter nightmare to humanity as creatures just trying to survive. The mammal-like representations of the aliens gives you a completely different outlook. Nevertheless, you will be assured that the aliens as they are will kick, skewer, and eat as much human butt as any other kind of alien out there
The aliens have some human-like body structure and influences, most notably limbs (Bob has human-like arms and legs up till the point where they turn into spikes) and torso bone/muscle structure. That, I find scary. Maybe later on, some aliens that are partially made from humans that have been... alien-a-fied? Freaky as hell, no? (now that I think of it, Infested Terrans from SC... ######, no idea is original anymore!
Yeah, the NS team didn't want the aliens to be insects, because that had been done, and wanted the game to be more about survival of the fittest.... so they made the aliens mammalian.
As for the unity in the models, that was actually something they worked on getting.
Hmmmmmm, I look forward to fill this poor level 3 with tons of lead, I don't think he'll be able to fly anymore after I'm done with it...
O, and whoever said alien-a-fied (or something close) were like infested terrans also forgot the headcrabed zombies in HL.
thats if you can even hit this lil thing
Man.... It's images like that that inspire poets to write sonnets
Wherefore art thou ugly? For ugliness and beauty art pieces In thy tremulous visage, thine eyes Ensconcened in flame, wreathed in hate, Yet at time the same regal and angelic, As heaven's cherubin, hors'd 'pon the couriers Of the air. Thy form be stunning and dreadful Both, yet neither one nor t'other. Beauty Be in thy ation, of thy creation, marvell'd As Heaven's clear crystal song, envied by Thine fellow aliens, who art yet unskinned, Unmodelled, and above all, unmade. Thout art To me as a Golden Flame; breathless be my Amazement and intrepid wonder. Yet as a Fool who touches flame, so doth I fear thine Attack, thine acidic spore cloud o'poisounous Fume and bile, choking life, love, amazement -For be that what caused me death. So standeth I Upon a precipice, indeciveness be my bane. Doth I turn to thee, and embrace thy beauty, or run away From thine spores and thine spikes of brutal homicide?
