So I loaded a save into the Cyclopse. I see only a few frames. Black, then apparently catapulted far outside of the submarine. Then the gameover screen.
Can that literally happen at any moment when you load a savegame into the Cyclopes?
This is just a suggestion, but maybe make it so that if you die less than a second after loading a save, or even a few seconds, don't delete the ONLY survival save? Thank you very much.

Unfortunately, it's hard to know what happened to your Cyclops. Most Cyclops physics bugs happen while docking, especially Prawn suit. The developers are working on these, and made efforts to reduce Cyclops going flying when something goes wrong. I've fallen through the Cyclops floor one time, a few builds ago. I haven't had any further issues. I don't recommend game-imposed hardcore unless a game has ultra-low occurrence of death bugs. If I wanted to do hardcore, I'd delete the save myself.
If you can give any further info about your bug, it may be helpful. Have you had previous times in Cyclops that it loaded fine? Was the Cyclops possibly catapulted, or just your character? which direction? If on pc, I recommend posting a dxdiag report. All these can help narrow down what might have happened.
Thanks for replying. Not on PC, playing on Xbone. I only saw a few frames before the gameover screen popped up, so I don't know where I was flying off too. I should note I died mid-air at incredible speed. The cyclopse was in shallow water, not far above the ground and it had a sea moth docked. I wonder if maybe it touched the ground before myself or the sub were properly loaded into the game and made the physics go haywire. I was standing inside the bridge area in the sub, but I wasn't steering it. I was just walking about when I exited.

Will get on PC soon to see if it runs better.
