<div class="IPBDescription">How many have done it?</div> Just wondering if there is anyone else out there who just like me and one of my friends bought Half-Life just to be able to play NS.

I bought HL for NS. I did play the actual game when it was released in 1998(?), but sold it later on. I heard so much good stuff about NS in a forum I frequent that I decided it can't be waste of money with HL being so cheap nowadays.

My current wonid is like 14922 or something. I feel so 1337 having one of the first 15,000 copies of a game thats sold millions, everyone else has IDs like 200394837473372382738, and I still have the original case and CD, both totally trashed, but amazingly working fine and not lost after like 5 moves. I forgot how I even got Half-Life...I think it was bundled with something I bought. I don't remember actually buying this damn game.

Packaged with Vortex2s? hrm, I know I had it before I had 3D, so it wasn't with a video card...damn, anyone know what HL would have been packaged with back then?

edit: I got my first real PC in 1997, maybe it was bundled with that? when was HL released?

I bought Halflife for the first time when I became a playtester in July. I'd already played through HL, back in '98 using a friend's copy, but never got into the MP aspect.

pre orderd HL way back when, only played single player for a long while till i decided to try out the mp. had to sign up on WON b4 you could play. my wonid is also very low, 41380. short enough to easily remember. still got my original box with cd-case and all. still remeber having to d/l tf when it was a mod and not included with the game and standard updates.

know a couple of peopel who did buy the hl for ns after they played it over at my house.

i got my HL from a friend... his was not too old 233440 but it got banned on the CS servers i normally played on so i hadta change it...

i then burnt my friends HL CD... so yeah.. neva bought it <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'> played HL online before.. it was really fun <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'> haha but i played on a server with two godly ppl who were brothers.. their scores were consistently 200-1 or so.. so hard >.<

Well, I liked HL, I played it a while from an illegal copy (1998). Then my friend started tellling me how L337 TFC was. I bought th HL Generation pack (HL, Opfor and CS).

Played TFC for a long time (1998-1999).

Then I discovered the CS disc (1999-20??), got it to work (didn't install properly, hmm, reminds me of, well.....NS <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'> ). Persuaded my TFC (UberL337 Engineer) friend to CS. We still play it.

Then I discovered NS on the brink of the release date(2001-20??). Jumped right in with the new broadband connex I just got and loved it.

Still have all my discs, and the best part is I have three keys. Spankeh!

I bought half-life with my brother (when we only had 1 comp.) for cs...

And holy sh** CS was addictive, finally got bored after a year, switched to Starcraft and Tribes2...

Got into CS again (friend started a clan, and he really sucked so I jelped him) Then found out about NS at the start of 1.02 (never experienced turrets not dieing when tf did)

And by far NS is the best mod for Half-Life, although i'm waiting for Ring Of Power (a LotR mod) <a href='http://fotmod.flagrun.net/main.php' target='_blank'>http://fotmod.flagrun.net/main.php</a>

-1998/1999 I first played Half-Life single-player sometimes around christmas 1998 I think... It was a leaked beta, burned on a golden CD toghether with Blood 2: The Choosen
The only difference to the final version I noticed was the hud, but it doesn't really matter...

-1999 I played Half-Life again, a cracked final from a friends CD. It was great, again...

-1999 I found out that the CD mentioned above also contained JumBot. I played around with JumBot and thought "Wow! How much fun must this be with *real* humans?!"

-2000 I got to my first LAN, and it was even more fun than I had exspected (altough I still played with my cracked version <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'> )

-2001 I got DSL and started thinking about playing Online...
Then I played CS (the mod i played on the LAN where it was great) online my first time and was dissappointed. Wasn't much fun being flamed at the whole time <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'>

-2001/2002 I found Day Of Defeat and it restored my faith in Half-Life multiplayer.
This was the time where I had become so addicted to Half-Life and its MODs that I decided that it simply deserved buying. I began to check my local stores for good offers...

-2002 I found out about Natural-Selection and two weeks before the release of Natural Selection v1.0, I finally bought Half-Life...

To make it short: Although not ONLY because of Natural-Selection, it's still one of my main reasons for buying Half-Life.
If a VALVe-Employee reads this: I would have bought Half-Life even without the MODs I think... sooner or later. With them, I bought it sooner.
The thing that really catched me on Half-Life was the ability to make my own content. I'm not a good mapper, but I CAN (or better COULD) map. That's something I had never experienced before for any game... And probably the reason why I bought Half-Life in the end...

I bought the Half-Life Game of the Year edition when it was released (around 3 years ago, I think). My Dad had bought it beforehand, and he let me use his until I could get my own.

I bought the very first edition of HL, but my wonid is 6-digit long.
I finished the game, and I really loved it.
Then, I decided to try worldcraft 2.0 which was on the CD, made some maps...
Finally, as I knew C++, I decided to download the SDK and I began a mod with a friend... and I'm still on it... with a bigger team now <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'>

I bought HL shortly after it was released. I bought HL to play HL single player. I went online to play some MP but found I liked SP better. CS? No. I didnt buy HL to play CS. CS wasnt even around at that time. And........ I never became a CS player. My wonid is also really low.... 27575.

Wonids were reset sometime in 2000, so a low wonid doesnt really mean anything, it just means you were one of the first to connect after the 3 authing servers merged into one. For instance my friend has wonid 80 but didnt by the game when it first came out.

My won id has not changed once. I have had this same wonid since the time I bought the game. I bought HL on 3/26/99.

Im not to sure....but I think my WONid might be in the 800's range lol

I remember saving up the cash to buy it after watching some guys give it a shot at Comp USA...it looked SO frikin cool. The Aliens and everything... Was a looong way from Quake 2 in a good way. The single player was the best ever, it was like a merged pre-alpha copy of Soldier of Fortune (realistic blood that stuck to surfaces was one of HLs cooler parts) and Deus Ex (the character interaction and plot).

Once you play through HL SP, you can never play another mindless kill fest type game without thinking "Hey...wheres the story???".

got HL for christmas of 1998. Still got the original jewel case + cd in mint condition as i'm not a slob, i take care of my stuff. I even had the box until fall of 1999 or so till i threw it out. Took up too much room, and I needed to keep my DOOM 1 and 2 and Quake 2 and 3 boxes ^_^

Played halflife on my brother's copy originally. When NS came out I found a 10 buck pre-owned "Game of the Year" edition.
