Hi Guys, Hope you are all doing really well
Here is a list of my Sub episodes so you can easily find them and hopefully the latest episode will be dropping soon and as soon as it does I'll add it to the list
Great vids! Most big youtubers playing SN are, to be honest, really bad at the game as they miss most of the features. It's nice to see a new playing stayle keep up the grate work

So true. Once a series 40ish episodes, when you can get everything done in 15, you know it's gonna get bad.
Also, I bought subnautica for $10 in pre-alpha. Then all the youtubers found it, and the price skyrocketed. I still have everything ingame, and have only spent 15 hours on my main world.

I have a feeling subnautica is not meant for YouTube. Most moments are personal and with thousands of people viewing and interpreting the game differently, those rare, unimaginable or awe inspireing moments are lost to the constant struggle to keep your viewers interested and entertained.
Most yourubers miss the little things like scan data, precursor caches, and pdas. This means most people don't get the full experience. It bugs me a little that some people have 20+ vids and still haven't scanned everything, or got all the data etc.

On the other hand, that means there's more for the players to pick up and find out for themselves too ^^
I liked it when Markiplier and Jack ran into trouble like Jack trying to build his moonpool above water, and both of them exiting their subs only to get stuck inside the geometry and drown, their first encounters with the leviathans, Jack witnessing a Warper teleport a lava lizard right into his face, Mark blowing up several of his seamoths and then his exosuit... Looking forward to seeing Mark blow up his cyclops xD
Markiplier finding the Dunes Sinkhole was another moment that stood out to me. Prior to that, everyone I saw always took the DGR entrance. So it was a refreshing change of pace. Not that you can do so anymore, but still... At the time ^^

I'll keep that in mind, as I play and record on the first time doing it all I didn't think people would be that interested in seeing all the scan data... I could always do a video of me sat down in a smoking jacket and a cup of tea (I am British after all) reading them out like a story
Hey when it comes time to visit the Inactive Lava Zone, do you think you can take the Aurora entrance to it? Or at least drop by it once you have a Cyclops or Exosuit? It's around 400m down and directly beneath the Aurora's exploded section, and the tunnel is absolutely MASSIVE.
Here's a perspective I'd like to bank off everybody's collective heads regarding our buddy Phoenix's videos.
Okay, so when we do a compare-and-contrast between his work and most LPs, there's one thing that stands out: Phoenix doesn't use a reaction cam like Markiplier, Jacksepticeye...or pretty much everybody else in the YouTube insane asylum video library.
Personally, I think I prefer Phoenix's approach.
When a YouTuber has a reaction cam, I know I personally usually get wrapped up in watching that little PIP frame rather than the game itself much of the time. I focus on their facial expressions and visual reactions - which, for someone like Mark, is practically a requirement; he's a very visual reaction guy. But the ability to focus on the gameplay with just Phoenix's voiceover I think lends something very positive to the LP experience. It eliminates overacting (because when we're being filmed, most people at least subconsciously mug for the camera) and allows the viewer to focus on the gameplay and get a commentary track. For my way of thinking, it's like a movie's cast commentary; they don't put the cast in a little window and run the film parallel - it's the movie with different audio. Same goes for Phoenix's videos.
(Personally, when the
Sunbeam was shot down and all we got from Phoenix was "Hmm" - my God, I laughed my swim fins off at that.
Varies for me; I'm fairly good at multitasking so I often am able to watch both at once, so for me personally a face cam *usually* isn't a distraction. I do like Mark for his expressions though, like in his longest episode when he got caught by the mountain reaper not once but twice - on the way to the wreck and on the way back. The second time after he got over his initial surprise he's just like "Really...?" until it finally let go. Sometimes facial expressions can really add to the videos... But as you pointed out, sometimes the lack of a face-cam can do jsut as much if not more.
So I don't have any strong opinions either way - as long as the gameplay itself is entertaining, a face cam or none doesn't matter to me.
Just a "Hmmm" huh? xD I haven't watched that episode yet but picturing that it's already pretty amusing!
I don't know if I could do a Let's Play of Subnautica. I just, don't think I'd be able to do one. Not to mention my laptop can already just barely handle SA on its own - let alone with a recording software in the background hah (And I've never gotten my mic to ever work with a broadcasting or recording software...)
Took a gander a few of your vids Phoenix, and I have a small piece of feedback I'd like to offer. I had a hard time hearing you during gameplay due to the game volume sounding as loud as your voice. Dunno if it would bother anyone else, just something I noticed.
Other than that I like the different way you're approaching this LP and I hope you're enjoying the game

It's oldschool Lets Play style, no fancy PiP just raw talky bits with gameplay
I don't specifically prefer one or the other. PiP kinda gives you an easier time to relate to the "facecam dude", but there are some ladsNlassies out there which can play you with their voice/humor/talky bits alone. I kinda like the "intro*lets play*outro" bit phoenix is doing

Thanks and yes I am, I think they have created a beautiful would in Sub. The it all changes for area to area is really nice and they all have their own distinct feel to them...not that I have had a chance to go to all of them just yet.
Thanks for the input too, I'll keep an eye on the sound levels and make sure I'm heard more clearly

(this is where I find out it's where something big and nasty lives down there)

I don't know if my screenshots are gonna load, but we discuss this place in the Poll thread in my signature (Might want to wait until after you visit though, some spoilers in that thread!).
I won't say too much here, but you might want to hold off until you get the Cyclops Sonar module - or at the very least just hug the walls and floor so your floodlights and camera lights can help you out. It's pretty dark ^^

I might be in the same... Submarine here, kinda. Seeing an oldschool style LP... However, I am so damn sick right now, my voice ... apart from almost being gone, just too damn sexy for the internet right now Alongside being out of the world of recording for quite some time now

Also might want to change the title of the first episode to coincide with the others, Youtube is not showing the other episodes as "related"
Subnautica #1 ***
vs
Subnautica - Episode 2: ***
Subnautica - Episode 3: ***
etc...
same goes for episode 5
Subnautica - Episode 5 - *** (should be, Subnautica - Episode 5: ***)
They are confusing YouTube's series and related algorithms
YouTube's search algorithm is confusion incarnate as it is. But why give it an excuse?
