TSA Announces new item of standard equipment
From now on, TSA sources have revealed that all marines will carry a 'jammer' to block the use of the 'blink' ability exhibited by the Kharaa, another source can reveal... etc etc
Actually kinda funny yesterday, i was messing around with blink (big mistake) in Ventalation(sp) hive in Hera and i accidently blinked right into the fan...i blinked right through the vent and got stuck in the fan...which ultimatly killed me. Bah.
As someone posted in an other thread (I can't remember who or what thread), blink works by it's own set of very consistent rules, some logical, some not.
You've just gotta learn what those rules are.
In roughly 1 and a 1/2 months i've got stuck in something once, and used blink to great effect untold numerous times.
I could live with the bugs in blink if just every server had the /stuck command or something simliar. Ok its not that usefull when you get stuck in combat but most of the time when I do get stuck it usally happens when I try to transport myself somewhere.
Blink rules! I haven't been using it too much recently though as I've been playing lerk, any unskilled newb will be leathal if you explain umbra to them, and a solo-lerk is a wonderfull thing.
Did I just umbra a group of 5 marines? Did I? Oh why YES I belive I may have and are you all now my ****? Yes you are, YOU are my ****, SO... let me BITE you. hehe
On eclipse just blink all you want, unless you somehow manage to get your feet into the floor (only newbs do this) or you blink into a building (at which point I shall scream newwwbieeeee at you, ok so I did it once but hey I was a newb then ) you should NEVER get stuck, the triad array entrace to the marine base is hillarious, you can blink up the top, mele/acid spam and then jump down blinking to the far wall and be almost home to your healing hive .

The BEST blink I ever managed, was managing to blink INTO the vent in the marine spawn on (has mental lapse, map with rotating door near spawn) I was SO impressed at myself.
Complete fluke, I'll never do it again, but it were 1337!
You mean bast, and that is impressive
I had just taken down the RT out side the marine base on Nancy. Several marines were chasing me and I was almost dead. I knew that a gorge had set up shop in Mess hall, so I ran around the corner and tried to blink to the door leading into mess hall. I knew the gorge had set up DC's and OC's on the other side and I figured I would be able to regen there as I was almost dead from the 3 marines chasing me. I switched to blink and tried to blink to the door, and found my self facing a wall, I turned around to see that I was standing next to the 2 ladders outside mess hall and I had Blinked right through the closed door, the 6 chambers on the otherside, all of mess hall, and the window. The next thing I was treated to was three marines getting killed by the OC's. Try as I might I have not been able to come close to duplicating this.

How long is the range of Blink? Is it infinite? If Blink calculates when your "chest" is going to be, does that mean you *have* to aim at walls and ceilings? I'm wondering if it is viable and possible to tweak the way Blink works, so where you aim is where your feet are going to be, kind of like the Translocator in Unreal Tournament. This way, Fades will be able to accurately Blink next to a Marine, without the "Blink-and-Pray" syndrome we have right now.
Heres a few good ways to practice blinking

For newbie blinkers try blinking the entire length of the tram tunnel on ns_bast. This is probably the easiest one to master as all it requires is that you aim high enough to blink but not high enough so that you hit the ceiling midway!

For a moderatly easy blinking try getting up the slanted lift shaft also on ns_bast whilst the lift is down. I find jumping at the same time as you press blink enables you to have that upward momentum to be able to make it over the top ledge much easier... Once you have perfected that try the same technique whilst the lift is up at the top. Whilst much harder its still possible!!! (hint:- use duck!)

For a more advanced technique remember that some doors and lifts can be blinked through although this depends on which ones you attempt this. Try blinking from the bottom of the large lift at the marine spawn on ns_bast to the top whilst the lift is up. You will find you blink through the lift platform and land on top of it!

Now for a very advanced blinking technique try blinking into a skulk sized vent that exits high up on a wall on any map in the game. You need to be ducked, moving forward, lined up perfectly and aiming slightly above the vent entrance so that when you hit the wall you fall down slightly and enter the vent with forward and duck. One of the best vents to practice on is the one on ns_nancy leading to the back of the port engine hive above the resource node. Ive suprised many a jetpacking marine in there by leaping in after them and shoving an acid rocket up thier arse as they try and escape!
p.s. Shockwave... Blinking into the marine vent on the map with rotating door(ns_bast) is very easy! If you have the time i will show you how its done and also some of the more advanced techniques.

Doesn't need to be perfect, but if you can use it to get a realtime gauge of 'could I?' it would make life MUCH easier on everyone. =-.-=
If it just gave SOME visual feedback BEFORE you trigger it, all complaints would likely vanish. Boom, no more problems since you have a rough idea where to aim for reals now, no more guessing.
I'd have to say.. since I learned the mechanics of blink from silverfox on like my 3rd day... and since that day... it is my favorite skill... bar none. The other day I visited a random server where blink was considered "buggy" and "not worth it by a longshot".
I went fade after racking up skulk kills... just to prove a point... the rines had relocated to eclipse in that game... we had 3 fades.. yet they rines were holding them back.... out of 9 rines i came in ... acid rocketed two ... ran around the corner in view of the hive... there was one in front of me.. slashed him.. and noticed 3 rines in various other locations... i hit my trusty blink button just as the other fades came around behind me... i came out of blink and hammerd the rine as he friends tried to turn to aim at me i blinked to the next one... the last one felll to my blink slashing as well... as they started to respawn i blinked down the side tunnel and back out our healing station with 125/21 .. or something like that.....
If ANYone ever tells you blink is worthless.. they are wrong.... as the fades after that all asked me how the heck i cut down all those rines with blink ... as they could never get it to work.
Until very recently I was quite disappointed in blink and experienced the usual set of letdowns etc etc However after reading some of the earlier posts to this thread I tried their suggestions and blink totally r0x now ^^
Granted it doesn't always work and I get stuck often but about 4 of 5 times I can always blink and since I take adren I can blink quite often so that the missed blink does not matter so much.
Someone on a server told me to jump crouch and blink but that didn't work; the secret is to crouch but not jump, and also to aim a little upwards. So just crouch and aim up a bit you can blink away. Very rarely something on the floor will affect the blink but that something should be obvious whenever it shows up.
Once I found out from the forums that it helps to crouch or look up...OMG, I couldn't imagine fading without it! But still, it does have issues and I would like to see 1.1 adress them. Especially if they swap it with acid rocket and have 1 hive fades; it would be disasterous for the aliens if their precious fades died when they were trying to retake one of the 2 locked down hives.
My fave blinking technique.... standing in a place with a relatively low ceiling and looking directly up whilst rapidly blinking to do what I call 'The blue dance of death'!
someone asked about the blink animation, Blink actualy DOES a slash when you blink, if you blink right in front of a marine you can kill them with blink (3 blink kills so far for me )
Does a special icon come up for blink kills? I'd love it if it did, like those parisite kills: classic. Especially when they're on a HA marine
