Help: Admin Mod/metamod/ Plugins Died?

Bob_Da_TrollBob_Da_Troll Join Date: 2002-12-30 Member: 11598Members
<div class="IPBDescription">Everything's gone</div> Earlier today I added one of the awesome voogru plugins (thanks man!) and a new admin to meta/admin/clanmod (I have the three-in-one package admin mod installs). Ever since then, although the server says Adminmod, the plugin, and metamod are all initializing, when I try to connect to the server it doesn't show my motd, doesn't require my password, and doesn't recognize the plug-in or admin_mod commands.

I went through looking at every file I could, and I just have no clue why they're not working. They should be, and swear they are when the server is starting! I tried removing the plugin and that didn't work either. Can anyone offer any ideas? <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

make sure adminmod is the last in the metamod plugins list

No Go. Here's what plugins.ini under metamod looks like:

    ------------
    linux addons/clanmod/dlls/clanmod_mm_i386.so
    linux dlls/readyroom_mm.so
    linux addons/adminmod/dlls/admin_MM_i386.so
    ------------

Why would you run both clanmod and adminmod? I'd image they would conflict with each other. And even if they don't, why would you want to run both?

Clanmod has features that adminmod doesn't have, and is a build atop adminmod from what I understand. The latest .tar file on adminmod.org has clanmod and adminmod AND metamod as part of one package.

It was all working fine the other night, until I added that plugin and the user account. Wierd.

No, I believe you are incorrect. ClanMOD does not come with AdminMod. Only AdminMod and MetaMod come with the AdminMod tarball. Clanmod is a UnitedAdmins metamod plugin found here: <a href='http://www.unitedadmins.com/ClanMod.aspx' target='_blank'>http://www.unitedadmins.com/ClanMod.aspx</a>

I would suggest picking one admin program and dump the other one, your problems will probably go away.

Regardless, it seems quite clear that it was the addition of the new plugin that caused the problem to surface. It's quite possible that IT doesn't like having two admin style plugins running, even if they would usually co-exist. I would do as others suggest and remove either Admin or Clanmod.

Okay, it's possible clanmod was left from an older install. I think you might be right about the incompatibilities, if it weren't for the fact that adminmod, metamod, and clan mod were all running fine together just two nights ago.

    I'll try killing clanmod.

I'll try some other stuff and let everyone know how it goes.

Okay clanmod is off...in fact it was never active from the start, it seems. The server is still doing this, though.

As far as the plugin goes, I tried removing it, too...same problem.

I'm showing similar problems when I'm tryin to run AdminMod, Clanmod, Metamod, HLGuard, and the RCBots. Admin and HLGuard get shut down when RCBots are running. I've upgraded to the latest bots, 0.24 and things SEEM to be running ok. Also, metamod upgraded a few days ago. try grabbing the latest version.

As to why run Admin AND Clanmod? Clanmod can't do many of the things admin can. Admin's plugin system is very powerful and it's something I understand and can code. Clanmod, on the other hand, has the in-game menu system. And with that, I can have clanmod execute adminmod commands from the in-game menu.

I usually always use the console. What can I say, I'm a command line junky. But I know there was 3 or 4 different client side addons that gave you the ability to have in-game menus with adminmod. Probably still listed/linked on adminmods site.

I have tried several variations of the following plugins.ini file, and none have worked:

He is pulling your leg ... (id-10-t =idiot) ... not funny by the way.

By the look of the error messages you supplied the plugin is loaded twice for some reason. Are you sure you followed the install instructions correctly. How does your liblist.gam file look?

If I remember correctly adminmod comes with a nifty shell-script that does the install automagically, it edits the files etc for you. If you do this on a previous install some leftovers in the config files from the previous install might be causing the troubles you are having. I suggest you make a new clean install of NS i a separate and empty directory. Get that running and then install every thing you need one piece at the time, making sure that everything works before applying any new plugins. Gradually and hopefully you will a few hours later have a working NS server ...

By the way I run Halfd, adminmod and clanmod on the same server, works fine .... I use halfd to provide info on the webpage and to keept the server running if it crashes. AdminMod's there because thats the first program I got used to and I like it alot, ClanMod I installed on request of my admins. They like the menues better than the console. Everything is working and everyone is happy!

This is my first time running HLDS; I've come here for help because I figured people here would be willing to offer it. I'm having to re-learn both Unix and Linux AND learn HLDS AND Adminmod AND clanmod AND metamod at the same time, while dealing with the usual hangups NS has on Linux servers at the moments.

LEARNING. Do you get me? The first problem was a Linksys issue that is irresolvable, as many have found out. This is only my second issue.

As far as "Idiot" goes, it's not an opinion, and it's not a cute wisecrack-- You're being deliberately faceicous, and I don't appreciate the insult. I hope the moderators of this board nail you for that little quip. We're a fellowship of gamers over at TMOL...I can't speak for your clan, but I know TMOL wouldn't like someone like you wearing our clan tag, so I wonder if [WHO]ever is complacent with people lacking basic ettiquete within their ranks. You can politely run off since you don't have anything to contribute other than insults.

I'm sorry everybody, but I could live my entire life without people like this.

    Phlack: Thanks for the advice. I think it's honestly come to that. I hate it, but them's the breaks , I guess. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

what you should really do is this.

    debug things...

run NS without any mods...does it work? do ppl connect?

if so, your ready for mods....try metamod first...did that work?

    add in clanmod...still wokring?

add adminmod......working? no? ok, something wrong with either adminmod or clanmod not liking AM....backup you config...then start tinkering. thats how most of us learned. Getting a good server up takes alot of time and patience.

after helping out in the adminmod community and general help in whatever halflife related irc channel I could find for over 2 years now, I've found that when someone posts a problem like this that 99% of the time the problem is something the person overlooked and are flat out too lazy to debug the long way.

as for learning "Unix and Linux", don't give me that crap, they're more or less the same, it's like saying you're learning win95 and win2k.....

learning HLDS ? there's about 3 things to learn,
    1. what the actual executable is
    2. what your command line options are (still not exactly rocket science if you read just about any of the online documentation)
    3. your server.cfg settings, which for the most part are already set up for you

and don't try to pawn off learning metamod, clanmod, and adminmod as separate things, if you learn one you've got 90% of the knowledge to install the others. and what with the unzipping AND the 1 or 2 files you have to edit (which are always explained in the documentation) it could take upwards of 15 whole minutes to have it down cold.

wisecracks can still be opinions no matter how inflammatory they are, until it's proven in fact (which i make no claims of) I can have the opinion that air is dumb too.

I know that calling someone an idiot isn't exactly good etiquette, but from where I come from, the first response to this kind of post would have been simply "RTFM".
  • Bob_Da_TrollBob_Da_Troll Join Date: 2002-12-30 Member: 11598Members
I have RTFM. You assume too much. I HAVE tried to debug, but I couldn't find the issue. Laziness is no part of it.

I tell you what, since you consider yourself some kind of grand master at this software, perhaps you could offer help instead of throwing an insult? That would be more productive. "Where you came from" seems like a hole in the ground, at this point. That in no way excuses your insult.

Here's another "opinion", since you apparently have no problem with them: You're an elitist jerkwad, and an example of exactly the kind of player that gives on-line gamers a bad name.

If you're going to insult me, have the balls to either admit it's an open insult, or apologize. Don't try to rationalize your bad behaviour away with flawed logic.
  • [WHO]Them[WHO]Them You can call me Dave Join Date: 2002-12-11 Member: 10593Members, Constellation
    1. when did I ever claim that it wasn't an insult ? I was stating that it was *also* an opinion.

    2. debugging isn't over until the problem is fixed, and like someone already said on here, the fact that your errors state that some of the cvars are already defined leads me to believe that you are loading adminmod more than once or loading adminmod as well as an old version, or running the adminmod.cfg more than once (which shouldn't really be a problem).

Now get off your butt and solve your own problems by the process of elimination like the rest of us.

Uh, I think that's where you tried to pawn it off as an opinion as opposed to an insult.

Are you even reading what I said? I put in about SIX HOURS trying to solve this before I ever posted anything here about this issue. It was in the hopes that people ran across this before or could help me in some way, shape, or fashion. Exactly why does that warrant being called an idiot?

I just don't understand why someone would come out of left field and throw an insult at someone. I mean, that is YOUR contribution to this thread. In what shape or fashion does that benefit this game community? How immature does a person have to be to view that as some kind of acceptable behavior, as you apparently do?

You know what that says about you? If you don't have anything more constructive than insults and blind assumptions, then just don't post on a thread. Am I getting through to you? Do you get this concept? <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->
