The "i Am Better Than You" Thread

ChronChron Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 6185Members

no false advertising here
There are multitudes of threads that are named like "How to be a good commander" and "Whats up with the stupid gorges?" that are just a showcase for 'what can't they do it MY way, because its obviously so much better' posts. Then we get 4 pages of replies from other people about how THEY do it, and even anecdotes about their 1337ness.

So here, this is a threat for everyone itching to boast. So boast, already!

(watch, I bet no one boasts.)

I am better than you in every possible way.

Well of course noone will boast, its commander syndrome: if you tell someone to build the phase instead of shooting the OCs, they will go shoot the OCs and then run back to main base to get more ammo.

    BTW: I rule.

I actually think its more observations, I dont think anyone really is claiming to be L337, however if they are, theyre wrong, its practically impossible to be L337 in NS. Only groups of people who work cooperatively can be L337.

Oh, and I'm too busy being 1337, which isn't what you lot have been saying, which is LEEL. L337... *Sigh* to stop & prove simply how much better I am than any of you. Which, incidentally, is a lot.

I always stick up for newbies who want to help the team but may make bad choices because they aren't used to the depth and style of teamplay in NS.

I'll give them a run down of the general strategy in pubs.

I'll take them to all the different structures, tell them what it does, and show them how they work.

I'll explain the different chamber upgrades to them, how to evolve to higher level aliens, and general tips on how to best use their weapons.

I'll lead them around the map, show them the hives, marine base, resource nozzles, weldables, and general areas of importance.

I'll try to answer their questions to the best of my ability and point them toward this homepage or forum if I don't know the answer.

Now for some of the fresher newbies this can take time, and many deaths on my part to explain enough of the game for them to start making more of a contribution to the team.

I don't know if this makes me better then anybody but when one of these 'not-so-newbie-any-more' guys write, "Thx for helping me out dude, had a real good time. Your the best, hope to play with you again." before he leaves, that makes me feel great.

It certainly makes me feel better then 'Some_elitist_pinhead[fromsomeclan]' that might have 30-2 but have no other helpful contribution to make then to type, "You st00pid newb go away" or "You idiot, learn to play".

I think being good means more then just team victories and personal score, I think helping newcomers understand why NS is such a kick **** teamplay mod is an important part of of being a good NS player.

...like I said, I don't know if I'm the best but I can certainly say I'm good.

Hee hee, I do live in a utopian dreamworld of my own creation sometimes... ahh who am I kidding most of the time. In my world everybody teamplays, follows the commander's orders and only 1 person goes gorge at a time.

You'd be surprised, it's not all that time consuming to explain one side to a new player. I only devulge gameplay mechanics and do a little tour guiding, I don't tell them map strategies (ie. specifically where to ambush) or my opinion of strategies (ie. chamber upgrade order) because I feel those thing are up to them to discover, learn and find out what they like best. After the basic stuff, which takes at most about 1 round, they pretty much ask questions here and their and that will usually get them on their way.

Beyond the basics I'll give them general tips and strategies (ie. Always listen to your commander/stick together/1 gorge at a time/don't run your skulk straight at a marine) that takes away the initial frustration and potentially flame-baiting habits they might have carried over from less superior teamplay games that I will leave unnamed.

I'll be honest, there are times when I only have an hour to get in a couple rounds and then I'll defend new player (ie. "Quick being a jerkhead and leave them alone, you weren't new once?"), answer questions in brief and direct them toward the homepage and this forum. I won't do the whole tour-guiding bit. But when I have an evening to play, I don't mind sacrificing a round or two or even my score to help a person fall in love with this game.

After all, they might feel indebted to me at which point I'll just tell them to do the same for new players they see and hopefully in the long run reduce the amount of training I have to do. I think I'm like anyone who really likes something. You want to talk about it, explain why it's so cool, and hope that the person will like it as much as you do.

That is why I can proudly say I am a member of the NS community and just not a casual player, I hope to think I put in as much as I take out of this game (which is a whole heck of a lotta fun)

Expanding the NS community with a knowledgable player base is a benefit to us all, losing 1-2 rounds in the hundreds that I am sure to play doesn't bother me much.

Nice talking to you and remember, spread the NS love.

My clan and I own. Thats not really bragging, its a solid fact. Just kinda lucked out in getting a good group of skilled intelligent people. NS is a good scene to break into, and I beleive we can do it with style. And we are growing. I stink at fades for some odd reason. But as a lerk or skulk or gorge, I am beastly...its very odd indeed.

Highest Skulk ratio 26:3 on nothing, in a 22 minute game. (we kept rushing and offensive towering..it was funny)

Highest Lerk Ratio(call if a liar if you will) 45:4(the 4 was from the inital skulk playing at that.) Just kept hitting and running...and I built hospitals in the vents and then lerked again..
