Dive Reel falls through ground consistently

Dive reels fall through the ground on the 2nd end of the device when you place them. Sometimes it falls a little through the ground ~100 meters down, other times it falls what appears to be infinitely south through 1000s of meters of solid rock. This happens after a save and a load.
