Need the death penalties reducing!

It makes sense to lose stuff from inventory. Fair enough. BUT on reviving in pod to discover all 4 of my storage chest things have dissappeared, all stuffed full of resources, I was shocked ! I checked outside and round the area. Definately nowhere to be found. That's a lot of resources I lost due to trying to help another pod. Not impressed if this is going to repeat.

I was really loving the game too. It's well different to anything else I've played and beautiful too. I was hooked but now I'm just shocked and upset.

In the current build of the pre-release, random stuff seems to happen occasionally; in one extreme instance for me, my entire Lifepod 5 disappeared into the horizon! I think the next update for September will remove terrain deformation, which will reduce file size/memory usage and hopefully cut down on spatial geometry issues. This should prevent stuff that floats and supposed to be persistent to stop moving randomly and vanishing. But until then I would recommend using Wall Lockers, since their data seem to be tied in with the base geometry, and typically don't go poof.

Sounds like a bug you should report, than an intentional feature.

If by "Storage Chest" you mean the waterproof locker deployables, I'm guessing that might be where the problem is stemming from, since items are only saved if you enter a lifepod, a seabase, or the cyclops - so it's possible the game is assuming those items are "unsecured" and so deletes them on death. Which definitely should not be a thing, and sounds more buglike than Working As Intended.

Yes waterproof lockers. They were inside the pod. I didn't have a base at that time so had no other option. I have used F8 to report as a bug though.

It was a shock to die, caused by me visiting a distress signal site with 3 shark things, 2 of which attacked me. With nowhere to hide I died in seconds. Of course I really should not have gone there until after getting the seamoth or something. I will be more cautious in future lol.

Hmm.... waterproof lockers... inside the pod... I prefer to have them outside, y'know? And if you spawn in a place full of hostile creatures you can just restart the game. Because whenever there's an update 'til V1, your save may end up being invalid.

That isn't related to death. I did the same, kept them inside. They disappeared when I returned to the game the next day. Oddly enough, they reappeared a few logins later when my Life Pod had drifted away.

    I too reported it.

Heh, just ran into the life pod drifting far away issue. This is around 6 hours into my first game and didn't have enough silver to make a fabricator so I had to console cheat myself one in my tiny new base so I wouldn't starve to death. As bugs go, this one was ouchie.

It might be a bug if you can have the lockers inside; normally you can't drop items inside the pod/bases, so the game probably doesn't expect them to exist and deletes them.

Put the waterproof lockers outside next time -- that's where they're supposed to be. I've never had them get deleted or lose their contents out there, but it might also help if you make sure you visit your pod after putting items into the lockers, just to make sure the game has secured your inventory.

yeah I have since tried to drop one inside a base and it won't let me. I'm guessing the problem is the water inside the pod confusing it, allowing placing of them inside. Of course when I put them there I had no idea it wasn't planned that way lol.

Once, I had one of those grav spheres wind up on top of the water. As I approached it, it vanished, and I couldn't interact with it.

Eventually, I realized that I could grab it with a propulsion cannon out of vanish-range.

So yeah, weird things happen. Rush to base storage ASAP, even if it's just a couple corridors and lockers. They're way easier to keep track of than the floating lockers.
