Subnautica's Load Times Are Absurd

Not a formal bug report, just a heads up.

So I booted up the game for the first time in a while to try out the new cool stuff, but when I went to make or load a world, it would take over an hour and a half. Seriously guys, WHAT?! I have it at minimum settings despite my PC being more than able to handle it. First time trying to load up a world, it took up to 30 minutes (Way too long, but not as bad as the rest) but my graphics were up too high and I restarted my game. Tried to load up the world again and... Well let's just say I started at 7PM and was too tired to care at midnight and it hadn't loaded. I tried making a new game and it took an hour and 30 minutes before I gave up because I had work in the morning. I understand Subnautica is an intensive game, and in the past it has took me a while to load up worlds, about 3 or 5 minutes, but this is ridiculous. I think Unknown Worlds should try and reduce these load times, otherwise my will to play the game will just go away.

This may sound stupid, but you're not alt-tabbed out by any chance?

If not, I myself don't experience this. It takes mine between 2-5 mins to load (one time it loaded in a mere 40 seconds, was amazed)
Perhaps your copy of the game is bugged in some manner. Try verifying the integrity of the game files through steam and then start a new game and see if it loads quickly.

Be patient, they are working to fix as many things, it is alpha after all :P

@Captagear Yes I am but I've loaded it before while tabbed out and had little to no issues.

Hmm okay, because I just found it took way to long to load when alt tabbed. My guess is it's something to do with resource allocation. I'd just suggest loading while actually fully in the game for now.

You could play it in windowed mode while loading and switch back to full screen for the gameplay (not sure if the windowed will fix it)

Hmm, I play all games in windowed mode for ... Well for recording reasons, quicker access to the OBS... Not that I do much of recording as of late... Hmm... And I've seen atrocious loading times as well. gonna test this fancy fullscreen mode now, just to test if it actually loads faster :D

Well turns out I'm a humongous idiot. Keeping tabbed into the game made it load no problem.

Not to be an ass, but I'm lucky enough to have an SSD, msata, and put SN on that. Loads in like 30-40 secs from scratch. A reload takes like 15 secs tops. Was horribly long when I first had it on the normal hdd.

Anyway, if ya got a few extra bucks check em out...freakin awesome...

ps- alt tabbing killed my load times too so i don't do that anymore...

    Happy to help :)

Maybe change the title to [Solved] Subnautica's load times...?

I can just agree Harry's statement: A SSD-drive will significantly speed up the loading-processs.

I had Subnautica installed on my normal HDD (SATA3) first. The timer on the start up loading screen statet that it took 51 seconds to load.
Re-Installing Subnautica on my PCiE SSD-Drive reduced the loading time to 19.something seconds.
So I can only advice to install Subnautica on a SSD-drive; esspecially when you plan to use a VR-Set, or allready doing so.

Does an SSD help with the stuttering?

Just like to put it out there, I have never noticed excessive loading times on my trusty HDD, 10-20 seconds tops.
