How do I equip items/tools/etc from my inventory into my equipment slots and vice versa.

Just beginning to start up the game and I caught a fish. I don't know how to store it into my inventory, also don't know how to store my fire extinguisher and so on.

    The fish is in your inventory its just that is a usable item so if you had a empty slot in the hotbar it would show up there. As a side note, the Devs should add a way to remove items from the hotbar without me having to put them in a container to do so.
