[Off-Topic] Gorge Racer 2000

<div class="IPBDescription">because we all need it.</div>First off; I'm <i>not</i> a programmer, so I can't develop this mod. (However a gamedesigner and graphic-artist).
This is just for speculation regarding a Gorge belly-sliding mod, and what fun we could make out of it.
And this is not a plea for the developers to answer (they're plenty busy already), but if anyone can give me or anyone thinking about the engine an educated guess it's better than nothing. And judging by the <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=107482" target="_blank">demographic</a> of these forums I don't think it's going to be such a huge problem. And maybe someone who can create this mod for real gets inspired? Who knows.
So shove away your sarcastic undertones for a bit and discuss!

So I'm just making this topic here since there's no thread like it.
Also, if this topic is inappropriate or just stupid I'll hold my breath for the real NS2 mapping guidelines, but as of now I thought this could be a fun way for me work with Google SketchUp for a bit.

The general idea is at some point that a <u>mod</u> could be developed that is solely created for players to race as Gorges using the NS2 engine.

    If it's done right, you definitely could have lasting fun. I've been prototyping a game in my design class where the main mechanic is rolling. Rolling and sliding are not all that different.

    Saying it's not fun though no one has played it is foolish.

    I think it's a great idea, maybe there will be Power-Ups and Weapons, too!

    And casual games aren't a huge hit nowadays?
    It also all boils down to how well the gameplay is designed. If we could create curved levels, ramps, jumps, (powerups!), I'm sure there are quite a lot of people who would want to just create a Gorge-Race level as their first map since creating a multiplayer-map for NS2 is going to require a buttload of balancing, especially with the Grid-system.
    That's why for example I have concepted before a co_ type of level before, as I knew that a ns_ would need so much more.
    And there's nothing wrong with having a gametype that only lasts for a while, people would still return to plow some belly if the last NS2 game sucked or you only got 5 minutes to play.

    I'll entertain myself anyway with creating a level of sorts and possibly a design-document. Just to get the idea across or something.

    GUYS! He didn't say it wouldn't be fun, he said it wont have lasting fun... i.e. we wont be playing it for 6 years like NS1. That's why I QFTed. To me it seems like something you'd play for like 30 min for the LOLs and then mabe go and play it again in a few weeks for some more LOLs. Can't see myself playing gorge racing for hours a day like NS1 :P

    Also concepting (in Photoshop) on a level inbetween staring at the TV, it's not pretty so I won't share that but maybe later on.

    Hehe, as long as the end of the race propels the player into a random team join pit. Otherwise everyone will be playing GorgeRacer instead of NS2 :D

    That is a really nice concept art. I think it'd be a good idea. Keeps the NS feel in the gorge race.

    It has been done in various forms over the years, but I'm sure all the mods are dead by now.
