Game is unplayable: always crashes after a few minutes

I just bought this game yesterday and I really don't want to have to get it refunded, but I've yet to play it for more than a few minutes because it always crashes. The sound keeps playing normally, but the video freezes and I have to force-shut the game from Windows Task Manager.
