Scanner room range is useless

The scanner room seems like a really nice upgrade, but the range makes it useless. As far as I can tell, nothing beyond about 60m gets found, even with the range upgrade. (latest stable build)
This needs a 1km range to be useful, and the upgrade should increase that to 1.5-2 km.
There is also no indication of the scan progress or when it is complete. You can let it run for days and it still says scanning, even though it hasn't found anything outside it's minuscule range.
