Mineral Synthesizer

Earlier I had an inkling of an idea for a machine where you put a sample mineral inside and it uses energy to build duplicates over a long period of time

The idea came to me out of a blurb that I imagined might be in the pda that went something along the lines of "collects material dissolved in the water that matches the provided sample" or something

anyway, it would take a ton of power but it would make any mineral renewable, even if it takes a long time

Cool idea. It would be very handy later on in game.

agreed, especially since it gets harder and harder to find things around spawn, eventually you have to move because there aren't any materials left to scavenge anymore

not that this is a bad thing, I suppose, because it challenges the player, but it would be nice to have a way to mitigate that effect a bit

    Don't the materials respawn?

as far as I know there are only a few renewable resources, like plants, animals, salt deposits, copper, and lithium, maybe a few other ones that i cant remember

    everything else can be exhausted

something you could add to that is having it so you can put material into the machine and create other resources by shifting the atomic structure or something. that way you could turn common renewable resources into rare non renewable.

Why not simply have it be placed over active volcanoes or smokers? Let it randomly create basic mineral based resources over time. E.g quartz, titanium, copper, silver and gold. Would give players even more reason to establish volcano bases in very late endgame.

I know for a fact that most useful ressources respawn now. Its not incredibly fast but they do respawn. last game i created i wanted to test this to be sure so i made a base right inside one of those huge coral tubes in the Safe Shallows. I gathered ALL the Limestones insdie and outside of it and went off to gather and explore some. After a few trips abroad and back i noticed that most of the Limestone nodes were back as well as some quartz around it that i was sure i collected as well.

That would be acceptable for me, would make the vents more useful too rather than just something pretty to look at

huh, I'll have to check that out again, maybe you have to stay away from the area for a long long time for it to work?

Seatreaders also create limestone boulders now.
