I just noticed this, when I hopped out of my sub to scan something and it tells me 'unpowered'. After a quick check of my gear, it appears that I now need to use batteries for my Scanner, and my Habitat Builder.
Yea. I picked up my old save from a few weeks back and noticed it as well. It makes sense with all the operation the individual tools perform. Does it just magically have juice to build bases? Of course it's another battery I'll have to farm early in the game, but I think it add another realistic aspect to the game play. I can't wait for this next update with the PRAWN/Exosuit!
Okay, but how is the power consumption rate on those tools? Is it quick draining, like the Seaglide and Laser Cutter, or more reasonable, like the flashlight? Just curious.

Builder and scanner tools drain power MUCH more slowly then the rest of the tools, since they need to be used a lot.

Not necessarily. The upside of those tools getting batteries is that we'll have more versatile energy to take with us. You could have all your tools run on one battery and just exchange that battery to whichever tool you need at that moment. Additionally, (at the moment?) the fabricator refills batteries that are used in recipes, so until you have the battery recharger you can time equipment making so as to have the fabricator act as recharger.

Im kind curious as how can one use the fabricator as a battery recharger? as i experienced it myself, you can use 2 depleted batteries to make one fully charged powercell indeed but then you cant use a powercell to power a tool requiring regular batteries .... so that doesnt work. Am i missing something here?

You can also use a depleted battery to make, say, a flashlight and then that flashlight's battery will be at 100%. Take it out and use it for whichever tool you need the battery more for.

Me thinks the devs will now compensate for this oversight lol
