Scanning For Silver

I'm trying to use the scan room to find Silver but I've been unsuccessful. I can't tell if this is because there is no silver in the green kelp forests I've been scanning in or because the scanner is just so short range. I've been rebuilding the room in different locations trying to find silver but no luck. Does the room find silver? Have I just been unlucky? Seems like the range of the room is incredibly short on it's own.

Maybe it's because it's hidden in sandstone and not to find directly. The scanner room possibly can't scan the stones itself or what's inside. But I haven't tested it. Try placing a scanner room at the red weeds biome where the sandsharks roam.

Haven't seen the code to be sure, but I suspect that what you get from a mineral node is determined when you break it, e.g. a given sandstone node is not predetermined or tagged as containing silver, the game chooses an ore item when you break it.

Maybe if you would drop the silver? And then try to look if the scanner room gets it?

Do you all find that the default scanner range is amazingly short?

It is, that's why I'm a bit amazed that the machinery update has no working range upgrades. If your range upgrades work and you can scan more than 110m away, please tell me.

I personally dont understand why they would add a partially finished item like this if we cant even really use it... but I suppose the canned answer is "it's early access". I was looking forward to using this device, it's a shame the machinery update is missing so many of its inner gears.

The reason why they shipped it out partially finished was because some people were whining about where the update was

It is sadly always the whiners that we hear the most :disappointed: Myself, including the majority of the community im sure, would have preferred a much more finished update even if it meant waiting a week or 2 more for it.

A finished Scanner room, with all the upgradables working correctly
    The much anticipated Battery/Powercell chargers

to name only those two .... patience is the mother of all virtues, my young padawans!

I stopped waiting for stable versions since I realized the seamoth update (long time ago) would be far too late. Turned to experimental and never regretted it. Fell for this machinery update though as I thought the devs wouldn't release it unfinished. Guess I'll stop expecting something from stable versions again.

Although I think it's never a few whiners here that worries the devs (why would they cry for a few irrelevant and unimportant people here?). It's probably the Steam masses whining, that make the devs cry. Because at Steam it hurts.

I remember those endless questions about multiplayer when the devs already have said no. Or how many people always suggest more subs when the cyclops and exosuit isn't even finished? Or a bigger map, when a map without life is senseless and some didn't even explore the deep?
