A few questions

Hey everyone.

So recently I went to my brother's house and he told me I should try out this new awesome underwater game he had bought, seeing that as I am a diver myself I would probably like it.
I tried it out and loved it from the start. I played for quite a few hours before I actually had to go, but since I really wanted to play more of it I just bought it for myself when I got home.

So this leads to a few questions I have.
First, is it possible to in some way get the save game from my brother's computer and copy it to mine so I can continue where I left off? ( I played quite a few hours so would be nice to continue it if I could)

Second, I read that a new big update is coming next week, so should I just wait until that hits and start playing again, or should I just continue playing now?

Third, if I do continue playing it now, when the new update hits, and I guess when other new updates comes, will I be able to download them and continue playing where I left off, or will I need to restart the game every time a new update comes?

Btw, i'm playing survival mode if that makes any difference...

Anyway, thanks in advance,

Best regards,
Onil

In game, make a screenshot by pressing F11. You will need that to identify your savegame.

On your brothers computer, go to the directory
    [STEAM-DIRECTORY]\SteamApps\common\Subnautica\SNAppData\SavedGames

there are subfolders with the name slotXXXX where XXXX is a number starting with zeroes. Look through those subfolders and check the "screenshots" subdirectory there. Search for your screenshot. When you have identified your savegame, copy the folder to an USB stick. The folder can be quite large... expect 1GB. You can then transfer the savegame to your computer. I haven't tried copying from other computers but I saved and re-used savegame slots on my own computer.

Waiting for the update to hit is not a bad idea. Usually you CAN continue playing but the terrain might glitch and render certain areas unavaillable. If you can handle the urge, wait for the update.

It is usually better to restart after a big update. Your blueprints might be messed up, the terrain might change. But restarting is no big thing, we do that regularily.

    Be well!

Congrats for finding the best underwater game ever so far.
    • I haven't done it before, but you should be able to open the game file directory with Steam and copy the save files. Someone else might know better.
    • Definitely wait till the update arrives. All fragments and tech got reworked massively since farming and important things with an old save might not work anymore.
    • You aren't forced to restart and can play with old saves, but some things might not work as expected.

Oh, I forgot. You could enjoy experimental/beta mode if you like to experiment with things. Just be aware that with the update next week you should restart for the full game experience.

I don't know that I would wait until the next update. Not that I want to paint the devs as slack or anything but updates are only semi-regular. They're sensibly only released when they're ready. No telling how long until the next one. Buy now!

Also, I almost never replay games. Or even finish them in the first. Too boring. But there being no other game like this one I've restarted this one many, many, many, many times and still enjoying it.

As others above have posted, sometimes trying to continue with an older save game can lead to problems. A fresh start will avoid any issues.

The good news is that, after a couple of starts, you'll get really really good at it and can zip through to your first sea base quite quickly. :D You'll know exactly what you need in the beginning and exactly where to find it.
