Terraformer Ideas

Instead of removing it try improving it, here are my suggestions :
A mini hadron collider in that hoop on the front that uses 25% of its energy to change its material(or make some in tiny material fragments) to whats in its gui that you selected which you open by double clicking tab when holding it. Also instead of holding materials it hold pounds or kilograms(changeable in its settings) so you cant get infinite free material sense you get 2 from removing 1.
In its gui you can change the shape and size of what its placing instead of just a sphere.
You can use it to mold titanium of make some which costs alot to make a small amount like 25% per 5 pounds(alot now but for the games time little).
It will also have a charging station because it takes while to charge and when you plug it in it takes 5 power per 5%.
Also when you drop seeds or samples on the ground it will plant them so you can populate your island and you get a seed harvestor which can harvest seeds from any plant in the game(once you add them all) like the trees.

I hope you like my suggestion because the Terrafromer is a very good part of game play and will be very fun when complete.

We could need a terraformer in creative mode to save the changed map as a mod.

I really like the terraformer and hope it does not go away. If it could be improved, that would be fine, too.

zetachron why not keep it for both its a good survival tool and realistic in real life people can change the terrain, it also is nice decoration and a good way to get around if you are trapped or stuck.

Its also a nice way to make a little island,
They could make the material placing more realistic. Like if its not touching the main terrain it falls or sinks which would make floaters a good use for it.

I read somewhere that there could be 2 reasons for eliminating the terraformer. First, it makes the save files bigger. (If so, and it's a problem for someone, the solution is to avoid using the terraformer.) Second, it might be used to deconstruct some critical game structure. (If so, a solution would be to implement a "suppression field" near such critical structures or areas. The suppression field would prevent the terraformer from operating in that zone. The terraformer might even buzz or start to melt down if the player continued to try to use the device inside the suppression field.)

I was thinking that it could just only remove certain materials that are weak like stone and sand but a structure is too strong for it to take apart but the terra former could be a part of the story by removing blockages like a collapse in the entry to abandon places sense those are quiet weak.

That's one of the suggestions I made a while back to nerf the Terraformer on Survival. The other was to restrict its use and crafting to Creative. However...

...that took the wind out of my sails. :disappointed:

While your suggestions are nice, they do not solve the fundamental problem with the transformer in that it modifies the terrain. Modifying the terrain causes the world's size to bloat, causing performance problems, ludicrously large save files (Some people have reported several GB save files after extensive transforming), as well as an inherent game play problem of allowing the player to bypass carefully handcrafted terrains that the developers have spent hundreds of hours on. One of the developer's examples was that if they wanted to design a puzzle, a player could just terraform through the puzzle rather than complete it in the way that it was intended.

The filesize/performance is also the primary reason why the Rock Puncher is on the chopping block, and why base structures will (eventually) no longer move the terrain when placed.
