I've had 3 stalkers follow me from the Kelp, to the safe shallows, to the mushroom forest, and back to the escape pod. They won't break and I have to kill them once aggroed.
One time (old build) a stalker followed me from the Kelp Forest to the lifepod, pushing the lifepod and making it roll, he never get back to Kelp Forest ^^

I'm not sure on the build but this was a few days ago on experimental.
i think (IMHO) in game present some 'lock-on strobe" for predators which have a distance for lost 'lock-on' like a missile locking system. Try to 'shake-off' predator's 'lock' by maneuring in rocks/caves and they swim away to search another victims. I'll did it many times and its help
And YES a level of aggression grow up and its cool !!!

I understand a certain level of aggression, but having multiple Stalkers (and recently Bone Sharks as well) following you between several biomes is a bit much. Especially since we don't have any real weapons to kill them with.
kill em for what? Its their home and they are predators. If you don't want to be a victim - so try to move faster and be smart. sandsharks run away after a few electroshoks by seamoth perimetral defence device and stalker too
