I think that players should be able to mod the game [admitably further down the road]. I at the current moment think the game is too fruity and given the chance would modify the game to look like that of SOMA http://imgur.com/28Spt2u http://somagame.com/ What do you guys think about modding of textures/models?

    i am gonna wait for a real answer until the game is actually done since there is still so much that is going to be added.

    Changing models would likely require access to the same toolkit chain that UWE is using, along with the original high-poly models. This would either require a large effort by UWE, or limit the potential modders to a small subset of the community -- either way, making it very unlikely to happen.

    Modding textures on the other hand would require much less effort for UWE to set up, and be easier for more people to do in general. So I think UWE could do moddable textures pre-1.0 without pushing anything else back.

    I disagree with you for one reason and that reason is the Skyrim Mod Dev team. Keep in mind that Skyrim was never intended to change models and yet people still did it anyway.
    The engine isn't needed to change models, only a converter.

    I do agree it would take quite a bit of work to make a system do this
    EG. Default Model /bla/compressed.tar -> /compressed/models/room.cfg
    Changed model /bla/models/room.cfg
    if changed model exists use changed

    This has been tested on UE4/CE3, I'm not sure how it would work using their engine however, I think they're using Unity which does make it possible if not easier to handle said system especially due to the wide range of coding styles you can use with Unity.

    i agree with you but in fact "Bethesda" want ther game to be moded. they give for free (with the game) a programme to do that since "Morrowind" so i was intended sorry.
    (and after they use the most popular mod's to creat paying "dlc")

    Soooo true, never thought about that. I do agree and 100% like the fact that this is the most civilized conversation I had ever had on the internet.

    I was referring to Skyrim in terms of external programs. Yes models too however, the users do have to place a physical mesh to make any models work including "hint" boxes where they would refer to if an object is a door, it's a built in part of most engines to include this in their models.

    On the other hand I suppose the only way to be 100% sure is to have an admin/dev confirm if our speculations are true/false.
