Pipes being a requirement for sea bases.

How do sea bases get oxygen? Maybe the use of pipes should be required. Currently, pipes are kinda useless and need proper textures. For bases that are deeper, maybe a device which extracts oxygen from water should be used, which would be cheaper than using so many pipes.

This and a fair few items, such as gravspheres, current generators, the dive reel and the air bladder, have little reason to craft. I never end up using them myself, or see youtubers using them, so maybe they could all do with some work to make them more interesting and in some cases less buggy. For example dive reels don't work real well.
Just a random idea...

well some of these itens whould be used if some others werent so easy and fast to get...like the air blader, its usefull at the begining when you dont have the seaglide but we are getting the seaglide very easy and fast so ppl dont do it anymore...same for the flashlight ...

I use the dive reel and airbladder pretty often

    "How do seabases get oxygen?"

Built in oxygen scrubbers. Next question.

    True.
Let's just remove pipes. Instead of trying to put them forcefully in the gameplay and hoping that it would work well.

Agreed, this is the future. We make submarines with little blue lasers, I think we can write off air pipes to technology... though seeing and having to build that tech wouldn't be objectionable to me.

Looking forward to working power supplies too, so I don't have to run 500m of vertical connectors to the surface for my solar arrays.

Though I wouldn't say no to an additional Oxygen Scrubber module that increases the O2 recovery speed inside a base.

If you got two expanded tanks, it can take a while to refill, even at the surface.

    That and perhaps electrolysis.

    I read that as Electrolytes

You can use gravpsheres on a downwind current generator to catch fish :)

You can get oxygen(O2) from water(H2O) or carbon dioxide(CO2) which is available with electrolysis. Such a device would need power consumption. No power, no oxygen. Like some water filtration device (salt and other particles filtered out) that can work with power. If you pump air through pipes you'd need power too (not to forget that CO2), but that would be more complex than a simple local device constructed with the builder tool.

It's just a matter of time until the devs give us a water filtration device and an oxygen generator to build inside a base. Probably with the farming update.

    EDIT:
I don't know if the devs consider bringing compression or breathing physics into the game (maybe in hardcore mode), but if they ever plan to do so, it's possible that the air supply issue could be coupled with air and compression devices that are used with diving and be implemented far later in game.

I have given feedback related to a decompression room and decontamination chamber. The decompression room would only be required at depths below 300m (may need to research this more) and could be treated like a sleep period where the game would fade to black and then back, however many hours later after the nitrogen has successfully evacuated your joints (again HC mode). Sounds "reaslistic" but I'm not convinced it would really add anything meaningful to gameplay.

Remember that we are on an alien planet. Gravity and stuff are different.

In regards of the pipes, I find them annoying as hell to try and use, if they mixed it up a little it would work.

Build a "floating pump" that is similar in floor plan as the Mobile Vehicle Construction Unit and then have another buildable item called "Reel of pipe" for say 3-4 silicone, that has a length of, 20 meters, and an attachment point at either end, now that attachment point can either hook up to the floating pump, your air tank or another hosepipe to go another 20 meters down, or round corners.

    Valid point @RevivedShadow

If these factors are defined however, I imagine the HC players among us would still have an interest in seeing the affects implemented. I can see bigger fish to fry, but if the Devs get this far, it's one more thing to consider.

They should have different modes for the new water system for the base, and add O2 storage tanks, air vents etc. so when you need water switch the water system to O2 and it makes O2 and you need a pipe to connect it to the storage tank

There are so many ways to get oxygen. Pull it from the water around you. Pump it from the surface. Use a lot of plants.

I agree that pipes should be needed to get oxygen to base before you can build more advanced stuff for bases at greater depths. The pipes for diving is also a cool idea though, they only need to make some caves that you can't reach with the seamoth. So the only way to explore them would be to build pipes to get through them. But then again we also have a glider and can carry multiple extra tanks and carry a few materials with us to build a small base. So the pipes seem rather pointless for that purpose.
