I could never leave entirely, I spend 6 months spamming these forums every day. I still post, but nearly as much, ask some of the oldies, I posted like crazy back when the General Discussion forum wasn't a rotting cess pool of crap.

You think General Discussion is bad? Then don't even LOOK at Suggestions and Ideas...

<sighs>

See you round.

You were doing so well but you spelt the correctly and we all know they never do that.

Anyway it's a shame to see so many pre-release people saying the same thing - I was never an important member of the community or anything but I did read the forums avidly and I feel its a very different place before everyone knew each other and now there are too many people to know.

Well the "Pre-Release" Ns Spirit still lives on. In this forum though.

I vote we rename the Off-Topic forum to the "Crusty NS Veterans" forum!

Honestly, I don't remember most of your posts, tooth, so I can't say I'm sad to see you go. But the reasons you've given (and others) are totally true and I'm feeling the same way. These boards are seriously the most depressing place I go. Nothing but stupidity. I didn't know people like this existed, in such large quantities. I don't know how much more I can take...

Anyway, I hope I get to play with you sometime. Look for Sancho.

See ya on the battlefield...

Am I less sensitive than you or something? I'm forced to browse through large quantities of more or less rotten posts every day because of my job on these boards - so what?
If I'm not 'on duty', I simply ignore topics like 'OMG, w3 n33d teh l4z3r, 4nd ur teh noob' (Interesting sidenote - I cease to read posts of people who spell 'you' as 'u' in more than 50% of all cases, it makes my life much easier.). Relative to other boards of this size, we've still got lots of good discussions and sophisticatedly funny people around.
Just don't step in the crap.

well, i have to say, i miss the old days... This is exactly why you cannot find me here now... Longtooth, you have almost as much posts as I, and i don't even know you!

I knew this was going to happen, and of course i could stay here, but i broadened my horizon, spend more time with my GF (who i'm still with, after 2.2 years!) and just began to do other stuff... I put most of my time in my band now, we are going to record a demo soon.

But, i do miss 'the old days', i now and then come back here and read everything you post....

Miss you guys....

I'll come back once... but for now, i'm just too busy in RL...

I never imagined that the release of the mod would mean death for the forum community, NS is amazing but I would have almost prefered having the mod never be released, just so the forum could live on. Now I know how the Native Hawaiins felt, outnumbered 10 to 1 on their own island. Is there a way to make a board restricted to people by their join number?

Yeah, it's just not the same now NS is out.
I mean even I remember times when there were only about 1500 members (I'm 1321 and I can remember the old boards. Just.)

An old guys board would be good but who would define who got on?
All those who joined before the release?
Those who were around for months before?

You don't have to leave, just be like me and only post here, it will be our own personal "Old Timers Lounge" until I can have one officially made.

(Please ignore my member number) Hey if you want to meet a cool community visit http://forums.seriouscommunity.com/
and have a fun time in the coolest off-topic forum on the net. Most of the people on the boards don't even play Serious Sam but they all come together for some funny and humorous stuff. As far as I know, its the most easy going forums, we talk about politics, religion, hot girls, the creation of the word ****, the ninja thread. You may even see a few people from the NS boards in the Serious community. Anyway just showing you that some of us new guys have community experience and that you can't judge us for being new. I must honestly tell you that most of my time on the NS boards I feel heated and in aggravation rather than enjoyment like I have on the Serious Forums. I may be seen somewhat of a flamer on these boards but I can tell you honestly, I am not like that usually. Its just that there are so many stupid threads here that have only one purpose and that is to heat you up in a big discussion. So even us new guys can relate to the boards we never experienced, when things were calm and cool, and the suggestions forum was a fun place. What did you expect, this is what developers must prepare for but sometimes forget about. If their mod is very successful then they may not be prepared for the mass of people who get involved in it. Your work either becomes ignored or highly noticed in this world of competition and when it is noticed, things will change. We usually assume that most people are intelligent when it comes to online communities but what we usually get is the babysitting job for all these "new" members. So far I think the admins have been doing a swell job at keeping these boards in line. Oh and even though I don't know you Longtooth, good-luck on wherever your going.

Edit: agg! my member number isn't that bad

hmm, I seem to have adopted the same aproch that most people have

simply bum around in off topic (and in my case I also like to look in Art due to a growing interest in it on my part ;D)

personaly I don't think there should be an 'old timers board' (though I could probably slip in under the wire) simply b/c it breeds bad blood

It would be nice if we had an AI (hmm, any one know where Wintermute is ;D) to patroll and just lockdown any threads that are pointless (I meen realy iron fist type stuff ;D)

You will never be able to recreate the feeling of the pre-release Natural Selection Forums. Sadly, that time has passed. However, you will always be able to look back upon it and smile. I will.

All the people that joined in November, or even October wouldn't understand the difference between the forums now and a month or so before release...

But thats what happens to all game forums. It is the natural progression in a forums life. You either deal or move on. Sounds harsh but its the truth.
• Speed_2_DaveSpeed_2_Dave Join Date: 2002-11-15 Member: 8788Members
I can understand where you are coming from LongTooth, but that's making an exclusive club of people who like the same game everyone else here does (or should, rather), just you knew it about it earlier. Had I of even known about this game 6 months ago, I wouldn't have questioned purchasing HL when I got my first PC (late last year). Instead I thought about it for a few months.

Were it not for Penny Arcade, I wouldn't even know this game *does* exist (and that was 2 weeks before release).

I rarely posted in forums, and never really needed to register until I found the NS community, so I actually joined later than I started playing, and later still than when I found out. I understand why you want somewhere for you to go to remember "the good old friends&times" but times change, games go beta, people come and go. That's life. Stay open-minded, and you might see a few good people while browsing through. Most of the posts in Iraq are good, and they're not all old-timers.

Besides, some old-timers (playtesters, devs, "Guides") already get special treatment in-game. *shrug* my .02

I can understand that things feel differently when new people come around. Forums I have visited in the past have 'matured' in the very same fashion. However, I never felt the need to leave, but rather, just post less. I mean, the people you used to talk to on these forums are still around. It's not like you have to change.

Yes, I'm a new user. I understand that since I have a few more numbers after my name, my opinion means less. But the new users are just that - new. Everything about the game is new. Cut us some slack! While you could talk about the game problems before the release, we have only started playing this game, so we know very little about it.

Sure, there can be lame new people. But not every new user is necessarily stupid, nor his or her posts worthless.

Give us a chance, don't leave.
