Hey i was wondering if maybe there could be character customization in the game? it would really be cool to be able to make your own character, sorry its just im not really a fan of the character that you start with. no offence.
Hey I was wondering if you could make a new thread for your suggestion, since this one is for talking about creatures. no offence.

That's probably way far down the line after the game is more in depth and complete. Priorities after all. Still, wouldn't be that hard to do, so it might be done sooner.
How bout emplementing the eggs as the ability to have one as a pet. I know you can tame a stalker but why not add in say taking a bone shark egg and hatching it in an incubator or something then releasing it to the sea to be your pet. Also add in the ability to capture creatures cause i've been playing the game and thought it would be awesome to have a way to capture a reaper leviathan. And i know theres supposed to be deeper sea levels in the full game, so why not add in larger creatures like a grand reaper leviathan or a grim reaper leviathan and make them as large as the ship was. Maybe add in the ability to customize base color or make it so the repulsion cannon can eventually be turned into a projectile weapon like a type of weapon to fire spikes.
You see, now this is a pet Idea I can be OK with AS LONG as eggs stay rare and few, with only so many per world and such. That way you can't abuse them, and you're more willing to not bring them into dangerous situations. Much better than the idea of using collars or crafting a way to tame them.
They're supposed to be used to collect DNA samples if I remember right, so using them as a pet is also quite costly if you can only have so many per world.
And i've been to dark areas that are 4000 meters deep with complete blackness and no land in sight. I'd assume that place would be called the abyss, where the baddest of the biggest baddies should spawn. The fact it's pitch black would make them easier to spot at a distance, and give you the perfect "i'm going to die" feeling.
And base customization is also a good idea, but again, should probably be way down the line after more stuff is implemented. Though, it wouldn't be that hard to implement, so it might be done sooner.
I'd like to make it where if you face a boneshark or sandshark that your knife is in your hand reverse-grip style http://www.jayfisher.com/Knife_Grip_Styles_Hand_Sizing.htm
And at least if the sandshark bites you for the first time that it can grab onto you with it's teeth!
And make that bite a requirement to have the player-character have an armored swimsuit appear that slows you down but protects you from bites and bleeders!
The dude's down right determined on getting animal training and pet materials for some reason....
Because it's a damn good idea.
And a full bite resistant suit would look something like this
Not exactly the image of mobility.
So I decided to humor you and look it up, and apparently most bite suits are made of either jute, leather, or French Linen. The problem here is that none of these are water proof enough to be submerged, nor can I think of a material that would be suitable in the world of Subnatuica to replicate these materials. At the best I could see Jute on the island biome being suitable, but raw jute alone isn't good enough to make a suitable bite suit, as for leather and french linen, both of the plants and animals for these materials are in an entirely different climate than what can be found in game. Leather is gotten from the rough, course hide of animals found in nature on land, not the blubbery, slick material found on most of Subnautica's sea life, and french linen, or linen in general, is almost definitely not gonna be found in the most likely tropical level humidity of the Subnautica world.
I do think it would be an interesting armor idea, but I can't see it being a thing. Not because I disagree, but because of the logic behind the materials. I think the best armor you could have would be linked stalker teeth as a form of chain mail, (If they were the size of the actual teeth in the stalker's mouth), with the right style of knitting it together, you could have a form of teeth chain mail, which is what is used against ACTUAL sea predators.
Plus it uses materials already in the game.... So, huge plus.
As for the animal taming and pet materials, I already made my point about why that's a bad idea. It would take careful planning and to make sure it's not like Minecraft where you can ALWAYS have a pet on hand because of breeding, as well as not as easy to tame them and keep them in bulk, but also not have stupid and frustrating limiting factors like your pets attacking each other, or you can just simply have one and you're done. The altering DNA in an egg to be more docile and protective was my suggestion, since the eggs in game are so rare already, plus you could have a reason for having an aquarium other than interesting food storage. That I could see being a pretty sweet edition, feeding your baby stalker the peepers you catch in the aquarium so that it can get bigger.
Like I said earlier though, if it dies after all that effort, it's down right frustrating enough to turn you off the game, so implementing a way to keep track of it's health would be a good idea.
If they added permanent taming into the game, this would be my advice. I still don't think it's a good idea, because it really, REALLY, could turn some people off on the game in various situations.
Now, do you see anything you don't like about my idea about training and raising pets? Cause if so, feel free, but remember, we're here for more reasons than just a pet system. Like that armor suggestion you had earlier, THAT was good since it's a unique idea. Not necessarily for taming, but just the suggestion of armor in the first place.

I cannot facepalm hard enough.
I was using that as an example, an allegory of what we'd be using the Bone Shark hide to make a gauntlet for.

I was using that as an example, an allegory of what we'd be using the Bone Shark hide to make a gauntlet for.
Oh, forgot to mention, i'm almost positive none of the skin of any of these animals would make good armor plating.... At all. The bone sharks skin seems to be too tough of a material to make any kind of clothing out of, considering it's not, of at least i'm almost 100% sure, at all malleable, nor flexible as well. Also, meandering off your suggestions and "allegorys", pointing out how they would and wouldn't work, to create new original ideas is kind of the point of this whole thread. Sure, you may have meant it to not be the full concerted idea at all, but that doesn't mean it can't have a little thought put into it. If you make any kind of statement or suggestion, I will say why it would and wouldn't work, even if you didn't intend for it to be implemented. You know what your allegory gave? An idea for a new usable material, Jute. It would be great for making decorations and traps, much better than the creepvine since it's a more sturdy material.
So thanks for that bit of plant information. Though the title of my thread is about clever uses for monsters, i'm not about to dismiss ideas for actual items in the game, considering they can be used to interact with certain animals in the end.
Now then, the next time you want to try and bash me for talking about a suggestion you made, I recommend stopping yourself for a minute and asking the question, "Does this serve a purpose?"
Because generally, i'm not against or with you, i'm just trying to pick apart what can and can't be done, and how useful and entertaining it would be to do so, and also generally, it tends to loop back around to affecting the creatures of the world in some "clever" way. Now, if you're done slapping yourself for reason of my ASSUMED ignorance, do YOU think, in all honesty, that you can make bone shark armor out of the bone sharks hard exterior protruding scale shells? I think they would crack if you tried to burn or cut off their scaled sections to a suitable shape, and I don't think they'd be capable of melting at all, considering it can be perfectly assumed that their shell is made of a carbon base bone like material.
I suggested a different form of armor besides the animals skin purely because I didn't think their skin would be good armor in the first place.
Sorry if I sound a little conceited, or arrogant, but i'm getting sick of you assuming i'm not thinking about what you're saying.
has anyone said yet that building a base atop a reefback would be epic?
No, nobody has said that yet, and yes, that would be awesome.... Up until the point it decides to angle downwards and your entire base is turned upside down....
I could see a refueling out post for oxygen and seamoth repairs being built on them though.

Yeah, not your usual base for living in but one one module outpost/refuel station that can only be built on reefbacks.

Benezene made from blood oil is a new material confirmed to be added in the future.
If I could guess a use for this, I assume that it could be used as a crafting ingrediant to make plastic materials, such as plastic bottles which can be used to hold smaller carneverous creatures such as bleeders and biters. The use for containing bleeders I remember posting on this very forum saying they could be used to remove venom, from such sources like the spike plant if there was ever a toxic variant, or even an aggressive, carnivorous, slimmer variant of the gas-o-pod. That would be fun.
It's also used in the real world to make glue or synthetic fibers.... Glue being useful for the obvious of sticking things together.... Maybe a portable basic one time crafting conduit? As for the synthetic fibers, probably good for more advanced form of clothing equipment. (While the forum I made said it's about uses for monsters, new items can be talked about how which they interact with specific monsters.)
Also, the Shocker is finally going to get added in now, though it's sad we still don't get much use for killing the current enemies in game yet, I am happy there's more variety coming in. Now the shocker is going to be larger than most of the common enemies, but despite that, I think it would make for a great permanent "generator" if you know what I mean. It's own body produces electrical energy that I think could be harnessed if captured is what I mean. I'm thinking a titanium cage with a hole only large enough for the player to fit through, and then a building a building capable of harnessing the electrical shocks the cage will experience.
Now, maybe the electrical current it produces is too volatile to harness safely, but i'm not saying it needs to charge bases or cyclopses and such. Let's face it, that would be too overpowered, even IF capturing and transporting it would be a major pain. I'm thinking more along the lines of using it to charge an electric fence. Capable of killing small fish, as well as deterring larger predators. The cage with the shocker gets hooked up to an electric fence, and the shockers shock damage is capable of charging the fences to a certain area. Maybe not so much a fence, but more of a dome. Not only that, but I think the size of the dome should affect how many shockers you may need, and the dome should connect to all points on the ground in some way, and shouldn't be build-able if there's a tremor that provides an exit and entry point for creatures. Totally an end game base defense, but a good one none-the-less.
Obviously if you get attacked by a boss class monster, however, they should be able to tear right through it. And I repeat, the boss class monsters such as the reaper leviathan and other as large or larger enemies should never be non-aggressive/tamable. They should be feared as a boss of the sea should be. Always. I will straight leave this game and community if those things ever become in any way docile, because at that point, the pattern of "Everything should be made in pansy land" syndrome will begin.... And then you'll have a huge decline thanks to lack of difficulty, much like World of Warcraft's system....
(Seriously, the arrogant piss-ants who thought they knew how they were going to play were the ones who caused the down fall of that game. It's why i'm so passionately against anything that would make this game too easy, or too inconvenient.)
No permanent taming of any aggressive creatures. Docile/defensive creatures I don't see a problem with taming, however. They will never fight for you, so you don't have to deal with the rage/sadness of losing one of your creatures you spent a crap ton of time on, because you know that aggressive mobs are just going to charge into the fray and get themselves killed, and you don't have to deal with the fatal flaw of over taming in order to never feel any danger from any lesser mobs again. You also don't have to deal with stupid logic crushing game walls like a taming limit that just ruin your immersion into the game.
Now, the benefits of taming docile creatures, you could have them swim in an area with a camera attached to safely and randomly explore an area, up to the point they get munched, or until you call them back. You could also have them for a form of distraction to escape predators, though this would be peeper specific for stalkers generally, and last but not least, They can be used as an alarm system to let you know when an aggressive creature is approaching, and/or targeting you. (Though this would only become useful if we got mobs that didn't make sounds until they hit. I could see the warpers being like that, honestly. They seem like a stealthy kind of enemy.)
Oh yea, and warpers, imagine harnessing that portal technology they have.... hehe.... Portal....
Though that is a LOT farther away than the rock punchers we'll be getting soon. Honestly, I think rock punchers would be great for mass accurate terraforming. Not they themselves, mind you, but what they provide.... OR even better, DNA enhancements for your docile creatures you tame, giving them the ability to dig through the ground.... That would be sweet for that exploration thing, and would provide them a way to escape predators while being chased. Yea....
Oh, maybe that's how warpers portals can be harvested, their dna into your docile tamed creature, and you have tiny holes that can teleport your little explorer to a separate set location....
Anyway, ill come back tomorrow to see who likes and who doesn't like what....
I wasn't even suggesting it be implemented. I was explaining why an arm gauntlet/sleeve would be all that was necessary.
I mean come on.
I feel like I replied to this, but i'm not seeing it anywhere.... Anyway, the arm guard thing was all you needed to say, it's easy to misunderstand your intent when you post a full suit, and say it's used for training attack dogs. (It felt like you would've used it to try and slowly coax the subject of taming back into the fray.)
Anyway, yea, it's a good idea, but the question is, how much would it defend from? have you SEEN a sand sharks mouth? It could take your whole arm, armor and all. It would be good for dealing with stalkers and bone sharks, but not the odd shaped mouths of other aggressive mobs. Also how durable it should be, and so on, because we all know that no armor should be made to last forever.
Thinking past that, I wonder if it should be up-gradable through the work bench if it WAS implemented. Imagine a shock system that damages what bites it, or a gravity pulse like with the pulse gun you have. That would be really cool. A good emergence item when you need to collect materials to heal up, since it shouldn't be able to take more than 2 or 3 bites.
