Windsurfing

Windsurfing in SN. The player could travel along the surface at a much faster pace than swimming/submarining -- with the caveat of not being able to bring along their sub. The player could deploy/undeploy the sail at will, allowing them to reach other areas quickly and go for a quick dive if desired. Initial implementation could have the player move at a constant speed. Later enhancements could utilize wind speed/direction, and allow for some tricks -- maybe even having some of the local fauna swim/fly along with the player.

P.S. I know scope creep is an issue already, and don't expect to see this. However, I think it could be a fun metagame.

    Skimming along the surface would be great, but I'd also like to see some ability to dive beneath the water the way birds do when hunting for fish, if for nothing than to break that barrier between surface and underwater environments. There has always been this invisible wall of interactivity. Agreed with the scope creep thing....it's nice to talk about though. :)

    Interesting idea, though I don't know how useful it would be since if I"m exploring I'm usually looking for something specific along with good resources (EX: Specific: Copper, GResources: Salt), so I always am looking underwater for something interesting. Just me though, I"m sure if I got bored eventually I'd like to use that idea

    @Aeroflux - Sounds like a Dolphin Sub? It can skim along the surface and dive to shallow depths.

    So long as you have to navigate / avoid the flocks of flying alien creatures that are swooping down for their next meal.

    While the Dolphin Idea sounds OK, I'm not too sure whether it'll really come into play over the seamoth. But Windsurfing would be cool for sure, although a bit out of place if the islands are spread too far from each other. I could totally see myself skimming on the water towards a beacon that i had planted beforehand as a POI.
