a 30 recource shield
*edit- Meant to say "Yet Another Strategy!" woops

with 10,000 armor point and only costing a little more than a tfac what do you think about a command console as a shield. This is more for blocking lerks and fades at the two hive stage from shooting far away and taking your tfac or spawn points out. They are also good for the pubs that like to play with ONOS. You can block door ways and keep them boogers out.

Just a suggestion. I know I have used it once or twice but I am usually pinching for recources to get full upgrades instead. Do you think the 30 recources spent on a shield is worth the effert it takes to defend what the shield does or just save for the upgrades?

Try to see if you can use it in a strategy and let me know how it works for you.

I had considered this as well, but I have never tried it. My only concern would be that you cannot recycle the COMM, so an incorrect placement could lock you in the base. The other problem is the tendancy of objects to rotate slightly when you place them (Why is that? Is it by design?) - It could make it tough to place it effectivly.

I was thinking a great place for one or two would be that huge doorway in the marine start on ns_caged.

Frankly though, if you have to rely on a CC to block your door from an ONOS, you've got problems so big that they won't be solved by a simple barrier.

The only other thing I could think of would be placement in a vent to reduce incomming vectors at a hive.

This has been brought up a few times in the past.

While we decided it could work, most of us felt the 30 RPs were better off spent on upgrades.

you can seal certain vents with structures, which can keep an area safe to build in.

yes this strat works well. but i think can be a little overused. I was playing bast as kharaa and a few other ppl and I were assulting the main marine base as fades. A marine drops down from the lift area and we all get pasted by cc's as well as the whole bottom area below the lift, then he sends the rest of the team to kindly dispose of the trapped fades with nade launchers It was funny at first but i think it is kinda unfair that things can be built on top of ppl.

IMO I think its just like the "walls of lame" the kharaa used to be able to build except these walls can't fire but have higher armor points. cc's were not ment to be made into walls, although they work rather nicely .

You could actually block off entire sections of the map as well as marine start and just use Phase gates to get in and out of the hives. (this would take a lot of res though). Another one would be to block in the aliens spawn point leave a couple guys to nade and weld and you can keep them blocked off for a while. Or what the comm did while I was playing... Paste the whole floor hoping to trap the attacking aliens in the cc's

lol I guess the comm can go on the offensive after all.
