<div class="IPBDescription">1.04 welders</div> Just wondering, since the "damage" of a welder is reduced, it kills slower, but is it the same for repairing? Or do repair and damage have the same values, making repairs, welds and killing structures slower?
I never thought the welder should have been able to be used as an offensive weapon.
Its for welding, nothing more.
I'd like to see it do 0 damage against alien/alien buildings.

What's so bad about the welder doing damage? It might have done a bit too much damage before, but in 1.04 it'll do just 70% of the previous. A good way to conserve precious ammo without enough offense to unbalance it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Anyway, I also want to know if repairs/vent-welds are slowed.

I think that the repairs are fine as it is, maybe sped up a <i>little</i> but the damage against aliens needs to be taken into consideration, i've welded my fair share of fades/onos's and been welded several times before...the welder isn't meant to be a flame thrower, but should do damage. Against alien structures i think it is great or maybe up'ed a little on the organic structures they have. if you're an alien, and you're silly enough to charge into a brilliant glowing butane torch (cough cough welder), then you deserve to get burned, It just sucks to get bunny-welded by this one marine all the time..

I dunno about you guys, but I've actually used a real welder. I've also killed a rat with one...it's not hard. I was welding some tubing in my dad's shop a few years back and a big ol' rat came running out of the end I was about to weld shut....scared me so bad I hit him with the end of the welder I had in the only hand I could move and ended up welding him to death.
Anything that has above a certain heat level can burn you. Welders can even blind you if you stare into the weld. (welding hoods serve 2 purposes, 1. keep hot sparks off your face... 2. dampen the light so you won't end up blinded, impaired, or just hurt.)
The only thing I could see changing about them is giving them charges or a jet-pack like self-charging system. Because welding sticks do run out in real life.
Welders aren't really a serious weapon, if you've got a lone marine sitting in a corner wealding aliens use your range attack on him untill he pulls his gun out.
Personally I quite like the wealder damage it make sence that wealders would be good for cutting up enemy structures (like yea a gun is really gonna tear through that huge blob of bio-matter SOooo fast).
I just wish they'd make the wealder more directional so its nearly impossible to hit stuff with.
An imbalance in NS for me at the mo is the aliens and marines comparatable effectiveness against structures at the start of the game.
A skulk attacking a res tower has great vision past the res tower, he can hide behind it muching away right up to the point that a marine trys to come round and shoot him at which point he can break off an munch the marine who was foolish enough to give up his range advantage.
A marine attacking a res tower with knife or wealder has pathetic vision, has to change weapons to be effective and is blocking his own field of fire with a huge obstical.
Using a gun is even worse as you'll almost certainly have less than a full clip when a skulk appears and so you'll have to re-load befor you kill it.
This results in the marines only way to 'out res' the aliens being to 1) kill the gorge and 2) build up loads of res towers and defend them..
I don't like playing defencive hence rushing 2 hives to disable their tech because I KNOW I cant disable their res.

it'd be hard to weld/heal armor if that were true.. The armor is meant to be welded, and if the alien walks into you, should also get welded.. The HA/welder combo works just as good as the fade/lerk.. only you see fade/lerk more than a teamworking group of HA's..

Well, why the hell does it say WELDER in console when you kill someone, in the manual, the CC and every frikkin player?
Anyway, I liked the welder better then the pistol. If an alien gets close up and I run out of ammo, I whip out this baby and weld it to death. way more usefull than the pistol with which im bound to miss.

Whenever I get a welder kill I say "Yes! Run into the light little skulk!"
