/me is also a fan of Tool and Nine Inch Nails.

Strangely enough, I find myself loving their purely instrumental songs just as much as the hard stuff. I'm just as happy listening to NIN's "La Mer" as I am listening to Tool's "this...is...necessary" chant. Both are just generally good at having a nice variety of styles across each album, and they're two of the few bands who use crossfading between tracks very well.

By now I'm just as much a fan of european trance as I am of rock. odd. If Paul Oakenfold, Robert Miles, Metallica, Nirvana, Tool, and Nine Inch Nails got together to make a set of CD's....just wow.

Tool is way, way up there for me.

On a related note, A Perfect Circle is not only excellent with their own material, but they've put out some pretty great covers as well-- look around for their rendition of David Bowie's 'Ashes to Ashes' and their version of the Cure's 'Lovesong', where they replace all of the lyrics with Ozzie's 'Diary of a Madman'. Pretty f-in cool.

I was never a really big fan of Tool. I've got nothing against them, I just wouldn't listen to them in my free time.

Those videos freak the hell out of me. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

OMG yes, A Perfect Circle just rules. I love their cover of Diary of a Madman, especially since I'm a pretty big Ozzy fan (Diary of a Madman was originally played by Randy Rhoads, my favorite guitarist, as you could've guessed from my handle). Didn't know it had anything to do with The Cure, though.

I do love a Tool community <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> It insures intelligent discussion (for the most part!). I'm chilling to NIN right now. Actually I'm also writing a report for tomorrow (its 6am!), but I'm taking a small..uh..smoke break <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> And yeah, that Diary of a Madman cover is suh-weet. I saw them play it live <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> (First time I saw Maynard too...)

Parabol/Parabola is the only Tool song I've ever heard.

I'm ashamed to admit that I like it quite a bit.

The Patient is also a good one. APC is pretty good, I like the Hollow, although im not into their whole anti-religious vibe they got going on. Good artists but i cant get myself to people who take such a terrible stance on religion, no one can claim to know for sure, that's why they call it faith, but i dont appreciate someone saying "**** your god", it seems so foolish.

agreed. then again, I go more for the music as a whole instead of the words in particular--the fact is, I can barely recite the lyrics to any of my favorite songs, and the only reason I know as much as Trent Reznor's name is because it was in the credits for Quake (he helped with/did the Q1 soundtrack).

my favorite tool song of all time remains Stinkfist....
especially the skinny puppy remix, that's really cool. but the original is just as good (I saw tool in concert and that was really the only song they played that I knew, so it rocked then)

Yah , i have that song, its also good! Tool is good.

Because i listen to lyrics, i try to avoid those filled with obscenities and ignorance, because its annoying and uncreative.

[edit] Rose by APC is good. [/edit]

First time I ever heard of a song from Tool, and I must say, it's quite impressive... Althought I would like it if that prolonged part were shortened... wells, still good though.

I will probably look more into Tool from now on <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
but I am really not too much into these heavy metal/ heavy rock style of songs... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    System of a Down
    The Union Underground
and 2 that is mixed with symphony:
    Rhapsody

Maynard doesn't so much take a stance against religeon, but takes a stance against letting another person rule your life (i.e. organised religeons). If God exists, then you shouldn't have any reason to listen to someone else preach it to you - you should be preaching it to yourself. Follow your own light, as that's the only one true to you.

Also, "F**k your god" can be taken to mean many different things. It's not saying "f**k god", just the god of the particular person he's talking to (which could mean anything, as many people hold different shallow 'god' style aspects of their life, even if its something like vanity).

Just to drag things a bit more off-topic here, I have to say that I just love this quote from Maynard: (taken from aperfectcircle.com's FAQ section)

Q: Why have you denounced our Savior?
A: I've never said anything even remotely derogatory about Michael Jordan.
