@Jekt
There's nothing in the changelog regarding this being fixed? And I don't think there's ever been a patch in NS2's history where you could alt tab during map loading.
Unfortunately it's the one alt tab technical limitation we have until we can update the DirectX version.
Thank you for reporting it none the less, though.
Alt tabbing should work better in other cases, however.
Yeah, alt tab during load causing 100% guaranteed crashes hasn't been fixed. It doesn't bring an NS2.exe is not responding message like above, just can't alt tab back into the game - trying to do so replaces the windows crosshair with the ns2 pointer and I need to bring up the trusty task manager to restore peace and balance.
edit: During the precaching part of loading I should add. Before this part I can alt tab and bring it back up no problem.
Alt+tabbing has been unreliable since a few patches back, but I found a workaround that works more often. Alt+enter instead of alt+tab at the end of a round, before the loading starts. Remember to alt+enter again, playing in windowed mode causing terrible input lag and some hitching. At least on my system.

Then you were in windowed mode, or the gods of chance were shining brightly on you... because i can recall for long periods of time where every other patch had alt tab breaking, and when it got fixed always pestering a developer whether we could fix the alt tabbing during load - to which they always reminded me of how it's just not possible and wondered why I was asking yet again.. hehe
Hopefully the load times in 268 and 269 are such that needing to alt tab is less of a demand (I load between maps 20-25 seconds, personally)

I alt tab during loading in NS2 instinctively. It's only been the last ~2 or 3 patches that it has been horribly broken on my system. Also crash fixes are mentioned in the changelog 5 times.

Can confirm, this is also my experience. Alt+tab used to work most of the time on my system, since those same patches it very often doesn't.
An updated version of 269 has been released with TRAM working, please make sure you download the update. Also I might mention that I have seen a few of my own servers and clients not updating correctly and have done full re-installs to great success. While I understand this isnt the best thing for some, you could gain a lot from a clean install of the game just like you would when re-installing windows clear that cache and try it, you may be surprised.
Also with the alt-tab issue, no it is not 100% fixed. However, we found that a larger group of our PTs were not having an issue anymore. I personally run at 1080p full-screen windowed and have only had issues when either leaving it tabbed our for more than a couple minutes or on map cycle. But that is very rare for me indeed.

Interesting.. it's pretty much never worked for me and others I know.
In any case, we are looking into switching to DX9ex possibly, in order to make it a moot point.

I could alt-tab anytime just fine while I could use DX11, but then when DX11 broke, and I had to use DX9, then the alt-tab nightmare began. Fixing DX11 is the thing I'd most like to see with NS2...

I've been alt-tabbing during loading since... forever, and never had problems. I'm playing in fullscreen windowed, though, and haven't tried the latest build yet.

I had no noticable performance difference between the DX11 and DX9, in that framerates were fairly consistent, however the DX11 experience was whole lot smoother. It had better frametimes.
I run i5 4670k and a GTX560. The other benefit of DX11 was the ability to alt-tab when I liked without issue

@Soul_Rider what sort of frame rate and graphics settings do you use? I am planning to upgrade my computer later this year (towards Christmas), and it will be similar to what you listed (I think it will be a i5 4690K and a GTX650).

Right now I am on a 2500k overclocked with a highly overclocked 750ti. I sit around 100fps at lowest possible settings and 1080p.
That is to say, they're back to the kind of times I expected pre-268 (3 minutes first load? Also bare in mind I used to load in perhaps a minute or thereabouts not many builds before that). Good enough for me :P Especially now the crashes are fixed.
I had actually gone a couple of days without playing due to the 10-minute load times that more often that not resulted in a crash. Its good to be back
On an unrelated note, by far the best thing about the past couple of days is that I realised I've been unable to hit anything in the past few weeks because of my mousemat. Mousemats. Not even once. Time to resume wearing a hole in my desk :P

I run 1080p on High. I was getting around 120-130fps, but unfortunately, I don't have access to my machine at the moment, so I haven't played since b266, so I can't give you a latest figure.
Obviously, things like AO and that were turned off, but Graphics and other bits were high.
since its clearly an immage and any one posting ONE picture is breaking the law on this forums apperantly
I don't know your story but everything the forum rules forbid is posting large images or just posting a hugh amount of images withput any text or context.
Have in mind this is a forum and not a imageboard. So what basically belongs here is text and not pictures.
If you want to post a large image anyways wrap them in spoiler boxes so each user can decide themself if he/she wants to see it.
ForceEvenTeams changes will help those who bought silly cheap accounts and those with fast computers whom join teams first. Hivestats are just as dumb as it tells nothing about a persons rts mindset of the game. The only way to balance a game is to not have stackers in the server.

@3X4L7 not sure what you mean. Force even leading to team stacks will always be a thing in NS2 because the game has such a range of skills (mainly a high skill celling). Previous iterations of force even team was broken or perceived. The best way to have balance games is to play small games like a PUG or play Captained games where 2 captains pick people. Those are the best ways to have balanced games in my experience.
Linux version still crashes. Couldn't make it through the tutorial. It's better though, a few months ago when I tried it it would crash during the load screen on most newer kernels.

Do you mean DX9ex as I can't find a DX9e?

(I realize some GPUs/systems might make better use of it) My i5/gtx580 on DX11 just lowers the fps by 10-20 and adds input lag.

All but one... in my opinion. It does not have any k's or d's in its name.
