Speckled grey/orange vents in overview

For some reason some of the vents on fusion appear as a speckled grey/orange instead of a flat orange on the overview. For the most part I can identify the speckled sections as specific bits of geometry, but I have no idea why they're doing this or how to fix it.
Has anyone else run into this problem?

Isn't that caused by z fighting?

It might be, but I can't see any examples of it in those vents.
The most interesting one is the vent at the top center of the map. The clean orange line through it is a pipe made of geometry; which is surrounded by other, almost identical pipes.

Sure theres nothing in hidden layers?

Could you get us a screenshot of that area you're talking about? The top center area?

The geometry isn't in any hidden layers.
One vague correlation that comes to mind is that apart from the speckled parts of the circled vent on the right of the map, this is only happening in the older vents. The more recent vents are perfectly fine.

Hmm... well I'm stumped... it's weird, it looks like a pattern, not random noise, which makes me think it's got something to do with the texture.

could it be duplicated geometry, like the vertices need to be welded together? (i have zero map making experience, but have come across this in blender)

its props. I had this issue with kodiak. just mape them cmdr invis etc etc

if its not props then you have somthing in the vent that is not assigned as part of the vent etc.

I just went through and selected all of the geometry (including edges & vertices) associated with the vents and tagged them as vents. That worked.. but I noticed a couple of odd things:
    - The geometry that was appearing speckled on the overview was already tagged as vent
    - I didn't touch the vent at the bottom of the map but it's also fixed *scratches head*

[EDIT] And now the speckles are back -_-
I'm beginning to think it's a largely random thing. Something to do with the way Overview processes textures that are in the Vents layer.

I think I've found something interesting. Welcome to ns2_fusion_vents:

All of the geometry is tagged as Vents.
None of the props are tagged as Vents.
I didn't make any changes to the map between generating these overviews.

Could some of you try doing this with your own maps? I'm curious to see if it's only my map that's having this problem.

    EDIT:

Yea there's something screwey with the overview generator. When I was working on the overview previewer tool, I noticed that although my map wasn't changing at all, the overview image was sometimes showing details that weren't there before. For example, I was running it with temple, and sometimes the mushrooms in mushroom farm would appear (I moved all the texutres to the ns2 folder, so that's not the issue at all), sometimes not, sometimes the debris in great hall would be much more defined... sometimes not.

I think one of the CDT guys with engine access needs to take a look at Overview.exe... there's something in there not quite working right. Hopefully while they're taking a look at this: https://trello.com/c/Gy3GtTqU/293-5455-overviewtool-shows-special-invisible-groups-and-ignores-props they'll find something else that needs fixing.

Without engine access I'd guess it has to do with something similar to the blurry preview pics. ie. the textures not having loaded yet.

I've thought about that too. Still doesn't explain the specks though.
