they were referring to the fleet that tried to stop the machines, before Bane (Smith) activated the EMP on his ship.

I think you're all looking too deep for answers here. This is a film, not a book. A film's ending is usually short and sweet, leaving hardly anything needing to be answered. Read some of the theories. If they were true, they'd need a four hour film to explain it all. The Wachowski brothers know how to make a good film, they're not going to end the Trilogy so you need to go and read 14 pages just to understand it.

I hope it isn't another "Neo > the bad guys, happy ending" ending, but we know that the matrix ISN'T destroyed in the third film. That isn't a rumour. The Matrix Online is a game set STRAIGHT after the ending of Revolutions.... and the game is based inside the Matrix.

One of my favourite rumours is that Neo wakes up, says "Phew, it was all a dream", then eats some pie. Another variation on that would be: Neo is fighting in the last great battle, he is about to be killed... he wakes up in his bed in his little flat. He is glad it was all a dream. He sits down at his computer, and the words "Wake Up Neo..." are flashing on his computer, then the film ends. That would be a good ending.

The Merovigian (or however you spell it, the crazy french guy). Heres my take, and it is nonsense, but its just something to think about....

The architect - God
The Merovigian - Satan

If you remember the Oracle talking about the Merovigian, she said "He was the first of us (the bad programs), and he is the worst". In my drug addled mind this relates to Lucifer being cast out of Heaven becasue he rejected God, and he was the first to be cast out...

or something like that, I just know that he is not a former one, he is just a rogue program. He even says to Neo "I have survived the ones who came before you" or something like that, meaning that he has survived the previous ones....

Also, I noticed 101 comes up alot (Neos apartment number, the number of the floor that the Merovigian is on), and in my mind, that hints to Neo being the Sixth One, because 101 binary = 5

Whatever....

Wayyyyy too many people put too much thought into this thing....

I'm gonna love it when all the theories are put to shame by Revolutions and there is one theory that someone posted and he will gloat about it for months and years to come...

Hell I know I'm an anime fanboy, but this is just over analysing stuff to the point of being stupid.... @_0

Actually, (over)analyzing can be fun. So be it anime fanboi!
And why can't a film be deep? Matrix is not exactly your hollywood film with bang bang, the hero saves the princess.

Personally, I ascribe to the matrix-within-a-matrix theory. It makes far more sense compared to the overall theme of the movie, as well as does not call in magical wireless transmitters to explain the connection to the Sentinels at the end of M2. He simply realizes that Zion is a matrix as well, and takes control.

Passing out seems like a logical course of action after that kind of realization. But I get the feeling that there is more behind it than that... taking a note from the 'Kid's Story', I'd place a guess that he'd transtantiated himself out of the Zion Matrix. Remember, the kid left his own body behind (or had a reasonable facsimile left behind by the machines) resulting in the graveyard scene, after a self-transtantiation.

In this case however, the body was not subjected to enough trauma to kill it, thus leaving it a 'vegetable' while his mind is not there, having returned to his actual body two levels above the 'Matrix' reality. Of course, he'll jack in again to utilize his newly-gained awareness of the Zion Matrix to help fight off the Machines, if this turns out to be what happened.

Smith is plainly a virus.. they've been avoiding mentioning it directly, but it's intensely obvious with the infection capabilities and the rate of spread. As well, ViruSmith supports the matrix-within-a-matrix theory, simply 'stepping himself up' through the telephone junctions to posess another body, quite possibly killing the two-up host.
I don't think he was put there by a human resistance above Zion, but more that while he was being torn apart at the end of the first movie had been infected himself with a portion of the One code, allowing him to exceed (though not ignore) his rules. Namely, having found a way to posess a new person without requiring him to relinquish the old one. Of course, the main System would notice this, so he had to give up the ability to globally move himself so as not to generate 'agent flags' as to his current location. Or perhaps he didn't realize, and HAD started copying himself globally... prompting the system to send him back to the Source for dissemination and deletion, at which point he chose exile instead. Which would support the 'he set me free' comments.

As well, in a number of the trailers they are highly ambiguous... the Oracle's voiceover after M2's credits is particularly telling... 'if you do not stop him tonight, I fear that tomorrow will never come'. Or something to that effect. This was overlaid on a Smith-Neo fight. It makes sense to refer to Smith as a single person, as it is, simply copied. But (as anything) it could easily be a head-fake. What if it were actually Smith being spoken to by the Oracle... needing to stop Neo, before the crash?

I just hope that Neo doesn't fly through multiple levels of Matrix realities at the end of the third movie, only to be unplugged from playing 'The Matrix Online' in a futuristic setting. It'd be horrible to have a movie series like this be ENTIRELY pointed toward hyping their MMORPG. :b

Also, that mathematical proof is flawed. It is the rough equivalent of the mason taking the bricks, stuffing them into place, and slapping mortar in to fill the remaining gap, in assuming that an infinite number does not follow standard rules.

10*0.9999~> == 9.999~>
9.999~> - 0.9999~> =/= 9
9.999~> - 0.9999~> == 8.999~991

(P.S. 000 is 0, 001 is 1, 010 is 2... 101 is NOT 6. It's 5.)

This link provides the answer. This is what Neo sees when he's in his coma.

Here's the simpler proof that 0.99999 repeated equals 1. 1/3 = 0.33333 repeated. 1/3 x 3 = 1, 0.33333 repeated x 3 = 0.99999 repeated.

Flaw located. 1/3 =/= 0.33333~>

There is no decimal number that can properly express one-third. It's the classic dual-infinites problem:

There are two infinities. One infinitely large so that it cannot be counted to, and one infinitely small that if you DO count it, you either over or undershoot it. Fractions are simply a rough estimation.

Please, read the original books from William Gibson, like Neuromancer, Count Zero, Burning Chrome, etc.

All that Wachovski brothers did was rip off Gibson shamelessly, threw it into a pot with several likable archetypes, fragments of Christian messianism and fashionable outfits, gave it a stir, sprinkled with endless kungfu fights and vampires and served the world a filling, but rather bland "eintopf" that was well calculated to draw huge audience and heaps of money.

Gibson is less flashy and accessible, but far better thought out, deeper, and with really stunning technological and sociological insights from time to time.

Isn't this completely incorrect? I believe that 1/3 being the same as 0.3333 reoccurring is one of the mathematical proofs that 0.999 reoccurring is equivalent to 1.
