Hey I'm about to buy a new comp and this game as well.

You are going to buy a new computer just to play NS2? I feel sorry for you already.

    edited March 2014
    Intel Core i5 4430 3Ghz @ 3.2Ghz Turbo Boost 6Mb
(no "K" - i dont know what overclocking is - is 4430 ok?)

    Video card choice :
    Nvidia GeForce GTX660 2Gb GDDR5 HDMI Dx11
    OR
    ATI Radeon R9 270 2Gb GDDR5 HDMI Dx11
    (Which one is best? GeForce?)

    Corsair / Kingston 8Gb 1x8Gb DDR3-1600Mhz
    (difference between 1x8 and 2x4?)

Western Digital Blue 1Tb 7200RPM SATA
    OR
    SSD Ultra-Performant 120Gb (+45$)

I run a very similar system (same gfx card and RAM clock)

I use an AMD Phenom II X4 Black, clocked at 3.13 GHZ (prettly old CPU-but was a hell of a deal :D)

I dont run at max settings (atmospherics, shadows and AO off/Minimal infestation-mainly for looks) and average 70-80 fps.

I haven't noticed many drops in performance, and overall the gameplay feels very smooth and stable.

P.S. I highly recommend getting the SSD, not just for game loading times, but also cause its fun to watch the OS load fast too :P

Well actually my current computer is 6 years old, so I'm not buying a new one "just" for NS2 hahah. Still, it's the reason I'm buying it now because a friend of mine was looking for a new game to play. Now he's waiting for me. (C&CRenegade and Savage 2 are both games we played that NS2 seem similar to - teambased fps/rts) By the way RenegadeX got out and it's pretty much Ren's awesomeness without the bugs and old graphics

Thanks yall for helping me out, I should be fine from now on and twice less dumb about computers =)

See you in NS2 in a few weeks hopefully !!

WOW. I just realised I'm under the recommended specs.

Meh. Idgaf. It mostly runs at 60fps. Mostly..

Following my earlier recommendation, I just ordered myself a new rig to take with me when I'm away from home (renting a place during the week to cut down on the commute). I was going to go for the bare minimum to play the game but ended up going a fair bit higher than that - I can use it as my main gaming rig at home as well!
    i5 4670K
    gigabyte g1. sniper m5
    16 gb 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 ddr3
(the 780oc from my current rig)
    240GB Samsung EVO
    noctua nh - d14
    xigmatek aquila matx cube
    corsair rm 550
    extra fans

looking to oc that chip if I can get the airflow right in the case. It's small so will take some planning and cable management!
Now to see if I can cope playing on a 60Hz monitor again...

Maybe somebody lives in a country where computer parts are more expensive due to many things. Currency moving down, taxes on import and such.
