Problem Activating NS2

I 'm having trouble activating my copy of Natural Selection 2, Steam gives me an error that says...

Please first activate the original game

The product code you've entered requires ownership of another product before activation.

If you are trying to activate an expansion pack or downloadable content, please first activate the original game, then activate this additional content.

I bought the game back on July 26, 2010 but never activated it my as my PC died and I moved away from gaming for a while. I would love to be able to play my copy of NS2 without having to buy a new one ( I do still have my CD key from the purchase ) Hopefully someone can help me out.

Well, I thnik you should have two keys, I'm guessing you entered the black armor key.

I would guess you are trying to enter your Black Armor DLC key, which won't work without NS2, hence the error. There should be another key which is the key for the game. Once you have entered that key, then the DLC key will be accepted.

Any developer's or Unknown Worlds staff able to help me with this? Not sure where else to ask for help!

Have you checked your emails for another key? Because like everyone else said before, it looks like you are entering the key for the Black Armor DLC of NS2.
