To add: This is because having a Crag hive automatically gives drifters the ability called 'Mucus Membrane' - which is a cloud/area effect armor heal bonus, note that this will heal the Harvesters armor, which will prolong their life as their health and armor are drained from not being on infestation.

Alien structures (Except whips) lose health over time when not on infestation. Mucous only revives armor, which, does not keep a structure (or Alien) alive if their health drops to zero. A structure or Alien can die with armor still on them. A Crag on the other hand, heals health (but not before armor(?)).
