After a unit/structure has died, it should have a 'dead' icon on the map for a short period* of time. This would:
1. Let players know who has died where and show if someone actually died on the map
2. Make the map a good indication of the scale of battles
3. *show things like killstreaks, by increasing the delays of death sprites depending on killcounts and cost of unit killed

EDIT:Along with the death prompt in the corner which shows everything from whip kills to power nodes dying.
I'm aware that it is possible to get the information in other ways. This would make a quick glance at the map enough without assumptions and make the minimap more useful.
I don't see why we can't just have a gray icon on the map where someone died for maybe a few seconds.
@samusdroid @narfwak i can't see a few gray icons tanking server performance.
If it does.. i'll eat my cat. or max will.
@cctee Tell my cat to be nice to me.
Would it hurt us veterans? It would be clutter on the map. It would only last a second or two.
If it hurts performance noticeably then I would ignore this.
A counter argument is that new people wouldn't be looking at the map anyways.
Bottom line, this should be discussed.
From my time looking at the map I find it rather bland most of the time. You need to look at it several times to see what is going on in other rooms- how many aliens did your teammates kill in that room? How many of your teammates died? What kind of units did they kill? What did they lose? As has been pointed out currently answering any of these questions requires looking at a bunch of different screens- scoreboard, kill display and frequently checking your map for differences. So I don't see it as cluttering the ui, it means I can check the map and scoreboard less frequently.
Well it could be one of those things we could turn off. personally as a comm i would turn this on so just incase theres a large shouty engagement and i lose a fade or a lerk, i know i lost it without having to check with my team so we can continue with the engagement.
And yes it should be discussed
