NS2 plays very differently, depending on the server size and the players' relationships. In normal, public servers, the gameplay is generally relaxed, and there is no expectation of a team strategy. Players generally do as they like, and games often grow into long stalemates. The other variation of NS2 is the competitive scene, where games are faster paced and players adhere to a team strategy. Arguably, NS2 is best played in the competitive format, where the strengths of the team based game are put into play. While not every player is cut out to play competitively, the current infrastructure for competitive play isn't very effective at allowing it either. ENSL Gathers exists, but it is not readily accessible or convenient enough to capture most players' attention.
A built-in UI for NS2 can be beneficial to the game by encouraging NS2 to be played in its best highlights. CSGO's automatch system would be a prime system for NS2 to model its own system after. The primary elements of CSGO's automatch systems are: a ranking system, a friends lobby, and a UI that allows for players to cue up for a competitive game with little hassle. The advantages of a built-in UI include 1) more attention towards the competitive format play, 2) a bigger pool of players to reduce the wait time on getting a competitive game, 3) a ranking system that matches players of similar skill against each other, and 4) a self sustaining community that can learn on its own without the need of veteran players to teach newbies (newbies can teach themselves through natural play).
I appreciate the additional gameplay content, the balance patches, and optimization that Unknown Worlds has added into NS2, but I feel that at this point, an automatch system would be the most effective way of encouraging a lasting NS2 experience.

Agreed.
They are already working on it though. It's called 'Sabot'.
Wait for it ......
We'll be old men before it see's the end of the tunnel. i can imagine it, YOUNG WHIPPERSNAPPER, WHEN I WAS YOUR AGE, WE DIDNT HAVE THE PRIVALAGE OF SABOT!
Though, we can probably just get a community project going on the matter and have it done much much faster.
+1 to suggestion though, organising scrims atm is dificoolts.
Well, this is the way I understand it to be. Honestly I don't mind much, the feature would be neat to have however all I really care about is having a working and efficient/usable demo system. Demos man. Demos.
We can even have an open discussion about what you would like. what we would like and what's achievable. If you let us know what the score is then we, the community, can divert out efforts into community ran events - Gather nights, noob nights ect. Maybe even a gather mod? that would be cool but maybe not functional.
The reinforcement program is up to 215k now, that's roughly 15k since Christmas. How much is hugh paying for his curly shampoo? ^^ We first heard of sabot in march 2013 and for many of us this is the last thing we ask of the development team!
Its not about lag match-making like COD , its about many stable Dedicated Server )
UWE care about low-end PC gaming (windowXP , low RAM , low CPU) its better than make more "complicated" idieas when those simple thing other game can get like "L4D2 loading take 15 sec"
Marketing is important too , but firts a company about gaming will improve their product before think about ............
