Quite a few people have been asking me how I imported Nothing into NS2, so I've put together this short guide.

Any questions just post them up.

Document can be downloaded with screenshots here. If anyone else can mirror that would be awesome.

1. Download the Source SDK (2013) in Steam.
2. Download Nem’s BSP Viewer here: http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=30
3. Open the BSP Viewer and click File > Open, select the original NS1 map.
4. Click File > Export > Map File
5. Click Ok and select a location to save it to.
6. Download Nem’s MAP viewer here: http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=21
7. Open the MAP Viewer and click File > Open, select the map you exported from the BSP viewer.
8. When it opens, select File > Export
9. Make sure the file format is .VMF and click Save.
10. Now open Hammer from yoru Steam directory. Mine was located here: \Steam\steamapps\common\Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer\bin\hammer.exe.

Note: I recall having more luck opening Hammer directly rather than using the shortcut in Steam.

11. When hammer opens, just select Half Life 2 at this prompt:
12. File > Open
13. Select your VMF file
14. You should get a progress bar now, select YES to remove invalid solids.
15. You now have your original NS1 map open in Hammer. Now we need to copy it into a brand new Hammer VMF file. Select Edit > Select All, then Edit > Copy from the menu….this might take a minute.
16. Go to File > New and paste everything into a brand new file.
17. Save the file with a different name. E.g ns_bast_spark_original
18. Now we can open the file in Spark (will take a minute or two to load)
19. All done. I suggest making the working Spark copy a gold version and put it somewhere safe in case you need to use it later on.

Tips:

Removing unwanted geometry

- To remove unwanted geometry, work room by room using the following process. Select everything the room, then unselect the faces you want to keep. You will be left with all the unwanted geometry which you can now just press delete to remove.
- Now that you have the geometry you want to keep, select it all and assign it to a layer.
- Now hide the layer and once again, select the entire room again. What you will have left are all the unused edges and vertices.

Faces randomly missing and going through the entire level

- Unfortunately this is a bug that comes up every now and again when modifying faces. Generally the bets fix for this is to close down Spark and open your map again.
- If that doesn't fix it, select the "Select Faces" filter from the very bottom of the screen. Highlight an entire room so you have all of the faces selected, then click the "Paint Tool". Save and open the map back up.
- A quick way to test if the issue has been fixed is to generate the minimap and see if i looks normal. If the level is still bugged, you will see random faces all over the minimap.
