[Linux] Game doesn't start; crashes with the fatal error "Couldn't initialize the render device"

I run Ubuntu 13.10 with a 64 bit system. This is my first time running the game.

Which drivers are you using? Which kernel? Did you reboot since the last kernel update?

I'm not that tech savvy, but this is what it says when I used the uname -arv command:

3.11.0-14-generic #21-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 12 17:04:55 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I'm not sure how to identify my drivers.

$ glxinfo |grep OpenGL

Is the big thing. Shows what OpenGL version you support. There is also a tool called sysinfo you can use to do most of the heavy lifting for you on the hardware drivers front.

Have you installed the proprietary driver for your video card? The default driver, mesa, does not support NS2.

I ran that command and it said that I was using mesa. That would be why it isn't working.
