So, I was browsing the Workshop the other day, and stumbled upon tamt's Detailed Maps mod -- unfortunately, it wasn't updated since December 2012.
However, I really liked it, and figured I'd try my own hand at this.

The idea is to re-draw the map overview images to make them clearer, provide information about obstacles, and have them be actually accurate (I'm looking at you, wall by locker room's entrance)

So far, three maps have been finished: Docking, Tram and Veil.

Here's an album of maps and how they look in-game: https://imgur.com/a/OjdaW#0

    I really like the idea, but I probably wouldn't have much need of it. Newer players will probably see a LOT more benefit as they haven't learned the maps yet. I never really liked the built in overviews for precisely the reasons you pointed out above.

    EDIT: Also, welcome to the forums!

    Except that when the overviews get updated you have to redo the overview again.

    @BeigeAlert
    Thank you -- I don't really have much need for those either, but I wanted to pretty ns2 up a bit, seeing as the stock overviews are really messy

    @SamusDroid
    I am aware of this. Luckily, updating the image takes much less effort than creating it from scratch :)

    Very cool I'll give this a try. I liked the other mod except for the fact I found them harder to glance at quickly and see what I needed to see so I didn't use it. Every ones got a different opinion but I've noticed when mini maps are opaque it makes using them quickly considerably more difficult. I don't run around with the map perma open for navigation purposes so I don't need to see through it. Instead I quickly pop it up and down very frequently and getting a quick clear picture of what is going on is a must. While the default maps aren't great as far as giving map terrain details they are solid and allow me to quickly glance at the map and see exactly what is going on. I got a feeling yours may be a bit too opaque for my tastes :(.

    I agree, it takes a bit of time to get used to the changed look -- I have this problem myself
    Good point about opacity. I've changed the maps to be ~80% opaque -- probably too small a change to help, but I'll adjust this should it be needed. Thanks for the feedback :)

    does this pass consistency or is it server side?

    Client side, I've been playing with it enabled for several days now, haven't had any issues so far.

    Apologies for the extensive delay, I've been busy with some other stuff -- I've completed another overview, Veil this time. Hopefully I'll have more time during the holidays to get another one done.

    Thank you for these, Started using them a few weeks ago and now I get sad every time I play on a map that doesn't have the clean overview!

    Great job!
